I'm okay with Habana being injured. He's getting better but he's still not shining like other wingers from other teams have done so far in this tournament. Time for Odwa to step up to the plate and prove himself, which he certainly has been doing every time he plays for The Boks and The Sharks...

In all fairness how can he shine when he never gets the ball DJ? If we ran in try after try he would be the best winger in world rugby. He has 72 caps and 40 tries that is a pretty insane stat if you ask me but we all have our opinions :D

I couldn't watch to much of the game but who got smashed in the face and why did smit get sin binned? i saw both incidents but it was streaming and the streaming was slow so i could not see second by second, more like every 10 seconds haha.

Did he get sin binned for kicking the ball or intercepting the pass?
 
Hougaard got a knee it the face whilst trying to put in a tackle.

Smit was sin binned for trying to intercept a Samoan attack.... Ref ruled it was a deliberate knock and sinbinned him.

We played fine in the first half...:confused:

I'm also a big Smit fan but he is the weak link from a form perspective - they've tried to play him into form and that's not worked either. John's leadership influence will be felt far more in the knockout stages but I agree with PDiv's decision to try play John into form. However now a decision needs to be made and it's a tough one. With John's lagging fitness, his poorer quality lineout balls and his inefficiency at the breakdown in comparison to Bissie leads me to believe that John should be played as an impact player and secure level heads for the team towards the end of a game. Bissie should be starting from now on...

Let's not forget Wayne Barnes and Stuart Terheege. They're equally liable for the missed calls on foul and dirty play...

His positional play is very good for the most part but he still lacks in the execution aspect. In loose games that we've played so far, his seeing little of the ball is entirely his fault, not anyone else's...

Brussouw was hit in the face by Williams who was subsequently red carded. Francois Hougaard took an accidental knee to the temple but he didn't look concussed so all should be okay there. Smit quite clearly knocked the ball down intentionally in my opinion but considering the position of play, it was no more than a penalty, considering that we'd held our discipline throughout the game. Had it been in our 22 I would understand the yellow card but it really was a harsh call to sin bin him...
 
‎3 biggest problems:

1. Morne Steyn once again kicking WAAAAAY too much possession away and not attacking the gain line like a flyhalf is supposed to thus allowing the Samoan's to run at us. Will this oke EVER be a proper flyhalf?! When we run with the ball we are MUCH more dangerous. Butch should have come on at half time.
2. Not enough ball in-hand for the boks. Nuff said.
3. The ref was a complete effing disaster

Our defense is holding strong which is what won us the game at the end but if we play like this against the AB's they will own us indefinitely....just hope Hougaard is okay.

Thanx man and is brussouw going to be fine :eek:? Would be a really bad if he was injured. Sounds like smit caused his own problems. You kick it away you run the risk of the ref being harsh i guess.

Was referring more to structural play and setting the tone of the game from the get-go. Its a personal view but I just got the sense that we weren't as well organised as we normally are.
 
I don't understand the up and unders we went for. Felt like ages before we can get our hands on the ball and then put a high one up and not really any serious chasers.

Really think we could've done better with the game plan. Some homework to do before the next game.

We missed 27 tackles today - that stat is worrying. But overall, like they say, a win is a win. Just didn't feel like the same squad and performance that whipped Fiji.

Dude it never looked like we missed 27, our defense was nothing short of insane. Our game plan sucked but we can expect games that pdv thinks will be close to be kicking games.

I agree, our defence is very good (best in the competition with only 2 tries conceded thusfar), but there were a few tackles missed and the statistics support that. Fortunately our cross defence is super and Lambie was fantastic at the back.

I don't think we can blame Steyn for 1 and 2 because he is playing to a prescribe game plan. As for 3 I do think the ref should have given Samoa a few early yellow cards to make them realize that he was not going to put up with foul play but instead he molly coddled them because they're the media minnow darlings.

Auckland - Samoa captain Mahonri Schwalger thinks referee Nigel Owens was harsh on his team during a spirited 13-5 defeat to South Africa that ended their Rugby World Cup in the pool round on Friday.


The Samoans were desperate to beat the defending champion Springboks for the first time to end a 16-year quarter-finals drought.

Schwalger said Owens didn't help.

"The ref was pretty harsh on us," he said. "If a few calls had gone our way we would have put some more points on the South Africans.

"The ref has got to be fair for us as well for us to compete in a game like that. I felt like it was one way, but at the end of the day you can't change the result. It's done."

They're right to an extent.

If the match officials did their job properly the score would have been different.

At any given stage there should have been at least 2 Samoans in the sin bin.

Then they would have lost by a bigger margin and have no leg to stand on to bitch and whine about!!!!!

The referee was absolutely shocking! :eek:
I hope and pray he doesn't ref another game of ours in the KO.

Hopefully the injuries to JP, Frans, Habana and Hougie are not too serious. We do have 10-11 Days before the QF, so that should count in our favour.

We kicked possession way too much today and we allowed it too get a bit too scrappy. Also, the 5-2 split on the bench today was the wrong call I felt. A utility back like Aplon would not have gone astray late in the game today. ( we wouldn't have needed Jean to play on the wing for the best part of the second half)

All in all, Glad we won and defended well but there are areas too improve on.

Roll on Next Sunday :D
