Official 2015 Super Rugby Thread

If I recall correctly this isn't the worst news as bones heal faster than soft tissue, right?

"Stormers flank Rynhardt Elstadt suffered a broken fibula in his team's 27-16 Vodacom Super Rugby win over the Blues at Newlands on Saturday."

Out for 4 months apparently.

Jeez. First thought that came up was that it wasn't his call for the red card...

Then I read further and see it is just another day in paradise. Not linked to the rugby.

Yip, same old, same old!

Bulls and Lions I agree. The Cheetahs though, I'm sure they have what it takes to win at the front and back. I have faith they'll pull it off.

That is if the Cheetahs don't get intimidated by the Blues, the Blues had shown against the Stormers that they are more than willing to wreck the game.

They are like the Tonga team in the RWC. They destroy the players instead of just playing the game :D

Made my pick and locked in:

So far my superbru is a nightmare :(

A few options instead of a red card according to Tank Lanning. What do you guys think?
A few options to consider: The guilty player is subbed and the game carries on as a 15 v 15 man affair. The guilty player is sent from the field for 20 minutes, then subbed and the game carries on as a 15 v 15 man affair. The guilty player is subbed and the opposition get to choose another player that also has to be subbed, and game carries on as a 15 v 15 man affair.

I think option 1 is a good one.

The guilty player is subbed and the opposition get to choose another player that also has to be subbed

But this is just stupid. Why should another player suffer because of the stupidity of a team mate? And letting the opposition pick is just wrong.

This works in theory but it's not practical. You need a specialist prop at all times. Let's say a prop gets a card, now he's replaced by the specialist on the bench. What if said player now also gets a card or is injured? You have a static scrum which can be used tactically to your advantage even though you're the team with the binned player?

Hope that example makes sense. It did in my head no idea how it came out when I typed it :p

I agree that it could potentially work against the team without a 'binned' player, but the game will be more fair. I also like the fact that the red carded team loose log points. To me that is the biggest incentive to not play dirty.

Yeah rather stick to crapping on bikes...

/just kidding. :D Makes perfect sense.

Problem I have. Sending any forward off makes the scrum so much more dangerous. Especially for the front row who now is taking a lot more strain.

It is a difficult one to balance.

With the current setup you would be able to replace the Prop with another and take off another loose forward in it's place. But if you end up with the example above you're screwed still I suppose as you will still have static scrums, you will however have 1 less player on the field giving the team with 15 a clear advantage as your team farked up. So that balances it out.
