Official 2015 Super Rugby Thread

Steyn should have got a lengthy ban for it, too. Ridiculously dangerous what he did.

More dangerous than wrapping your arm around the neck of a player trapped at the bottom of a ruck?

What about running into the back of a player laying on the ground, using your knee as a break?

For me the problem was the Hika red which set the tone/precedent for the rest of the match!

Most of those infringements barring Bismarck's, could have been yellows and I doubt too many people would be questioning the refs decision. The mere fact that there is so much speculation/justification/expert opinion on both this forum, other forums, twitter, news feeds etc etc indicates to me marginal calls were made with the ref erring on the side of maximum penalty instead of a more measured approach...

Hika was no more than a yellow, Bismarck red, Steyn yellow, Liam yellow, Marshall yellow...

Yes, it is more dangerous. Driving someone into the ground on their head/neck is ridiculously dangerous. You could very easily paralyse someone if they fall just slightly differently.

I'm also comfortable with Hika's red, you simply can't bash someone's head with the shoulder like that. Dangerous shoulder charge on its own is a yellow in my book, factor in the fact that it was to his head - that makes it an easy red for me.

Steyn's red was also right, imo, and I would have been comfortable with a yellow for Marshall.

Regarding the choke - Botha (the guy getting choked) and the rest of the Sharks team apparently didn't really care, which leads me to believe it probably didn't last long. Usually if someone does someone like that everyone's up in arms. This time no one even gave it a second thought.

Mohoje blow for Cheetahs

Cheetahs flank flank Oupa Mohoje is on his way home after picking up a groin injury during last Saturday’s Super Rugby match against the Crusaders.

The Springbok loose forward is expected to be out of action for 8-12 weeks.

Tienie Burger will be joining the team on their Australasian tour as a replacement for Mohoje.

Ah, nuts.
