Official Google Nexus 7 Thread

Hi all,
For some reason I can't seem to Root my Nexus 7. Looking to get the Hotspot feature working so there anyway to get this working without rooting OR is rooting my only option to get the hotspot feature?

I got my N7 3g yesterday. Haven't rooted or anything yet, am going to do that today when I get some time.

So I just loaded a few apps last night to play about a bit but was really taken aback at how UNvibrant the screen was. I wouldn't say it was washed out, just not 'alive' if that makes sense?

Anyway, charged over night and this morning it looks so much better. The colours are richer and a lot better, but still not as vibrant as I would have thought. I've done a bit of googling and there's a lot of talk about washed out screens with early models and some fixes also. Anyone else have this problem?

I had the same though when I turned mine on....bit of an anticlimax. I think we've just been spoilt with our phones and their amazing screens. I wouldn't say the N7 screen is 'bad' as such but it definitely doesn't have the punch of GNexus\GSIII (AMOLED).

Anyway, I have no issue with the screen. After a few minutes of use I don't notice it, makes me appreciate my phone. :D

Yeah, you're probably right. I am used to the AMOLED screens after an S2, Note and S3 now :)

After playing around for a bit, I'm really enjoying this tablet a lot. My last tablet was an iPad2 but the size doesn't suit me so well, but this 7" is perfect. The battery life is pretty good also now that I've done away with google now and all that stuff. For the moment, I have disabled the 3g (I'm in the desert, no coverage) and am using wi-fi only, and the battery life is pretty good.

I'm not really in the postion to comment more just now on battery, because it's new and I've been spending a lot of time playing about and loading apps etc since I got it, but the last day or two has been reading (graphic novels and novels)and surfing mainly, (tapatalk, facebook) and a bit of music on the sleep timer, and the battery is not getting below 50%

I'm also convinced the initial screen misgivings were down to the dull Nexus 7 wallpaper on start up and that ice blue font that they use. They really are not vibrant at all. So I made a black background to see how it felt, and it is now so much better. Here's a snap just to give an idea of what I mean (reduced in size 50%).

So all in all, very chuffed with this tablet and would recommend it to anyone :)

The battery life is pretty good...

See AndroidPolice have an article up about Google changing the rated battery on the N7 from 8h to 10h which might be linked to Android 4.2.2 being released.

Nexus 7 , price in shops?

Dion Wired has Nexus 7 , 32g for R 4400, is that the normal price, or can i get it cheaper somewhere else?

What's the biggest power user on your N7?

My battery seems to die fast, I even turned 3G and WIFI off when I wasn't using it to test it and battery didn't seem to last that long. I checked the battery data and it says Android OS (I think it was that) absorbed most of the time, even more than the screen. Is that normal?

No, it is not normal.

My display is 44%, and my Android OS is 11%.

Some process is gobbling your power.

So the most recent update to Android for the Nexus 7 (JB 4.2.2) is rumoured to improve battery life significantly.

Has anybody installed this update, and noticed a difference as yet?

Is there anyway to prevent auto download of the update? Was using my phone as a hotspot to quickly send something and it downloaded the update

Luckily I had a data bundle, so no surprises but it may not be the case next time
