OFFICIAL HTC Desire Thread

and make sure all the check boxes are on... but use the widget to switch 3G on and off

Which widget is that? I find with 3G on my phone lasts for a third as long as with it off (1 day on, 3 days off).

Is there a way to have 3G off but still able to EDGE (I just want stuff to update in the background, not using it for surfing)?

How do you figure out what is chewing the most battery? Battery is draining way too fast :(

Yes, go to settings, wireless and network, mobile network settings, unselect the last option to disable always on connection. Go back and find Network mode, and select GSM only.

This SHOULD then makes your phone only connects to EDGE and connect when you need to (not always on).

And under settings, accounts and sync, disable background data too.

Your battery should last longer after the above.

Yeah, I was going to say you should just switch to MTN, then you will NEVER have 3G signal, and never have to worry about it!(I live and work all around PTA, and I NEVER get 3G, except 2 times today, with a lot of struggle!) But yeah, think Cyberarmy has the better way:-)

Voice Search

Nope. That's a mod keyboard to take voice input - you still need google voice search installed - this is what i am looking for. Google search by voice is from what i understand just the reverse of TTS. The thread points to an inaccessible link for the voice search installation. Cant seem to find a link to download it.

I've found it: http://mobile.jack-frost.co.uk/desire_voice_search_missing.php
Works well, needs to be connected to the net to work.
I wanted it to test out speech to text for Handcent sms. Works ok, for short replys. Could be handy when driving.

You buy them in the same way you buy anything online - credit card.

Mayurh, buying online almost always required a credit card.

I just wanna know, hows mxit on this phone.. can you type faster than a phone with a keyboard?

lol, the keyboard is the same for me, think as soon as you get used to the touch screen and the habit sets in, its similar.
