Wow, how memory inefficient is Android? 576 MB RAM is not enough for Gingerbread & Sense, but iOS 5 runs just fine on the iPod touch, iPad and iPhone 3GS which have 256mb RAM.

Its called multitasking not suspend everything in sight

Android also has an actual GUI not just an app list with a task switcher.

going to be rooting my phone and then using Insertcoins rom in the next few days, how much extra space will my phone land up having +- to install apps. Also have heard that the new roms are quicker than stock HTC ones is this true?

Nothing, I'm afraid. Even if you install a new ROM, the partitioning will remain the same. The standard partitioning for the Desire is 250mb for system, 40mb for cache, and 147mb for data and applications. Any ROM you flash has to fit inside that 250mb system partition, which is why HTC had trouble fitting the new version of Sense on the Desire.

You can, however, repartition the phone's internal storage by flashing a new HBOOT table. So, for example, if you're on the Oxygen ROM which is only 100mb, you can flash the Oxygen HBOOT table which reduces the system partition to 100mb and leaves you with a lot more storage for apps. However, I've always been too afraid to flash an HBOOT table in case I end up bricking the phone. It's not like flashing a ROM, where you can simply restore from a nandroid backup if anything goes wrong.

Thanks i didnt realise that.
Now that am getting down to it would you recommend this tutorial? also my baseband is 32.44.00.324 and i see they recommend that you download a back up ruu but mine isnt listed in this site

Yo dude. Apologies - I saw your PM yesterday & subsequently completely forgot about it. :o Sorry!

S-Off will allow you to, among other things, change the system partition sizes on the phone's internal memory. Many of the later ROMs use different partition tables, so I'd say go for it. You're in good hands as long as you follow the XDA tutorial to the letter. ;)

thanks, when i do the Gparted it doesnt show my sd card from phone on this, any ideas?

yup, just copying everything off, then will try re-naming it

Had to use a sd card adaption to get it to work now just to make a stock nandroid backup and flash a custom rom and im done!

YEAH!! Finally complete, using Insertcoins v49!!
At first i couldnt understand what the heck was going up when Insert-Coins funny boot screen came up haha

Congrats! Not that hard is it?

Just as a by the by, I'm still on InsertCoin v45 - less Sense 3.0 but everything works flawlessly. Also, you'll soon get used to the devs uploading a new version with a brazillion fixes just after you've finished flashing.

Did you go A2SD or CM7?

naa was pretty easy hey, A2SD i think?

I had backed up my Apps with AppBrain but shouldn't they have automatically backed up with google? How do i get them to-auto install? I see that they are linked to my account when i log in through the pc.
