OFFICIAL HTC Desire Thread

naa was pretty easy hey, A2SD i think?

I had backed up my Apps with AppBrain but shouldn't they have automatically backed up with google? How do i get them to-auto install? I see that they are linked to my account when i log in through the pc.

They should start downloading & installing automatically once you enter your google account details on the phone. I had one previous version of IC - around v41, I think - that also didn't restore.

Now you need to go for CM7 when you feel up to it. It feels quite a bit snappier than the A2SD build...

How do i know which one i did?

Edit
Downloaded the A2SD one, can i just put the CM7 one on and re-install?

No. You need to flash the CM7 partition table off the AlphaRev website, essentially repartitioning the phone's internal memory like you did your SD card. I'm sure the A2SD version will be just fine, though. you don't absolutely have to go the CM7 route.

edit

You'd also need to completely wipe everything through the ClockworkMod recovery as well...

dang i wish i knew this b4, no biggy i guess. what are the other diffs between cm7 and a2sd?

Nothing. It's exactly the same ROM, just arranged differently across the phone's internal memory and your SD card. CM7 runs a little better because the bits that are accessed often are placed where they can be accessed faster, but we're talking milliseconds. Don't stress about it, just take note of any specific requirements of any ROM you decide to try. The first post(s) in each ROM's thread usually outlines very specifically what you need...

Enjoy IC, and if you get annoyed with slightly broken Sense 3.0 bits, just flash v45 (after factory/Dalvik wipe, of course). Oh, and make a mental note - the Dalvik cache wipe is under 'Advanced' in the ClockworkMod menu; dunno if they've moved it in newer versions. You'll pick up the lingo soon enough. ;)

so all i have to do if i want to flash a new room is go do a wipe, Then just put the new one on? Whats the best way to back up all my apps and settings?

thanks so am i correct that to load a new rom i must just wipe and than load as normal.

I wipe everything with a new rom, even the screen, with a cloth.

Also be careful when restoring your apps when moving between roms, especially true with settings. Rather reinstall via the market.

restore app, not data with TitaniumBackup

Tried to root my desire and failed... Main problem is I upgraded to the stock 2.2.

Tried using the unrevoked3 method to root and while it gave me superuser permissions I can't really do much else.

BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
...
RADIO-5.11.05.27

Then tried following the guide to downgrade HBOOT by making a gold card. Used gold card tool and generated a gold card online but it has errors when it tried to write the file to the sdcard. (tried with both the 4gb sandisk that came with the phone and with my 16gb kingston)

Anyone got any tips? Will I need to find/purchase a sdcard that can be made into a goldcard?

I haven't tried the longer method for goldcard with a hex editor and that PB99IMG file yet.

Well I have root but what I actually want is to be able to flash a custom rom.

Follow this guide here i used it yesterday and it worked, also on stock 2.2 with HBOOT-0.93.0001. Let me know if you need any help.

Using insert coin v49 nightly i have found my battery life has improved substantially :D

For apps that i have already paid for will i get recharged if i re-install when i put on a new rom. Via the market and not having google install automatically.

As long as you're using the same Google account, no. Your purchases are linked to that account, not to one specific device... or one device running a specific ROM.

Cool thanks. Will try using that. (mainly step 4 onwards)

whats the main difference on insert coin between nightly and stable? I have found the nightly getting slow.

Latest stable (think it's 1.0.8) = v45 Nightly. The nightly builds have more experimental goodies in them which might not always work 100%, whereas the stable build is... well... stable.
