OFFICIAL HTC Desire Thread

Been thinking of rooting my phone - tired of the lack of memory on the Desire. This video guide everyone refers to looks good.

With the tons of roms out there how do i know which one to use? Are there ones's that are better than others? Maybe a guide on selecting the right rom? Why did you choose the rom you are running now?

rooted my phone 2 weeks ago for the exact reason. Also used that guide it was great. I'm using insertcoin (v51 nightly) its got HTC Sense 3.0. Haven't tried any other roms but have heard that Cynagon mod 7 is quite popular

I see the CM is popular but I've got no idea what all the roms even offer and why you would choose one of the over?

here is a list of some of the different roms

well it depends what you want, some roms are more speedier than others, while some have extra features. Its not that big a deal to change. There is a thread here regarding different roms check that out. I would recommend InsertCoin v51 if you are keen to still use sense.
 
howsit guys
ive just installed coolexe's kingdom sense 3.0 rom to give it a test drive
looks good but v8 is quite laggy.waiting for a update.will keep you guys updated

NOTE there is stable & Nightly version. I'm running v51 nightly but haven't had any trouble with it.
 
using Reflex S 2.1.2...nice ROM but I'm suspecting the battery life :?

anybody here use setCPU? any useful 'battery saver' settings?

When ever my charger is plugged in at a certain angle the phone stops charging, and goes into car mode and the htc location thing pops up? If i put it at a diff angle its fine. REALLY CONFUSED and ANNOYED
 
You can disable the car thing from popping up when you plug it in etc. Otherwise sounds like you have the same issue with me and that the cable it came with has become a bit "loose". I replaced the usb cable from the phone to the charger and the new cable plugs in much more "solidly" and doesn't give "angle issues".

a) how do i do that?
b) tried another cable that worked fine, tho this cable is pretty new that doesn't want to work
 
On insertcoins gb rom. I'm having trouble installing large apps from the market.

At the moment i'm trying to get FNB's android app installed, and found the same issue with other apk's in the 15mb range. The app downloads to 99% and then disappears without installing. Smaller apps aren't a problem. Is there a fix for this, like clearing a cache somewhere?

Maybe it's a space issue. If you have the following to compare (using quick system info) :

SD card
Total: 2.73, Free: 111 MB

A2SD
Total: 0.89, Free: 308

Internal
Total: 148, Free: 40.04

System
Total: 250, Free: 7.06

I can't see how though. System is only for the Rom as far as i know.

According to this link and this one, it is in fact a space issue. Basically the problem is with the market download cache which is shared with all other caches. And on HTC this is small, so if the download from the market is bigger than the space available, it just won't install. This makes sense, since smaller apps aren't a problem and if I sideload larger apps I have no problem either.

EDIT: The download cache is not in the same directory :(

are you using the cm7 version or stock hboot?
 
using coolexes's sensation v6 rom and its running well
only issue is flash player in browser does not work.if thats important to you.there is a file you can flash but then the lockscreen weather animations wont work
 
Just an update, Unbranded HTC Desires can now update to 2.3.3 via OTA. If you got one from SP, you will have to wait for them to approve it still.

Pity my unbranded HTC Desire is already running 2.3.4

which rom you running dude?
does it have a fm radio app? is everything else working?
how much free ram do you have on first boot?
