OFFICIAL HTC Desire Thread

Thanks for the feedback. I installed it as well. Could not see much of a difference to be honest. Only new feature is the Restart option when holding down the power button. Quadrant bench mark test it the same, but it feels a bit quicker.
So after a week, it "seems" like I've got a memory leak...
Haven't installed anything new, and my free space is down from 20MB to 10....

Screw this... I'm going to root soon...

Tip to all installing the HTC 2.3.3 update - Get rid of the standard wallpapers. They are a good couple of megs of wasted space, you could probably shift them to your memory card if you still want them.

Good luck. If seems that the official update made out impossible to root your phone. Will have to wait until someone figure out a new method. sigh

I'm never going back to standard ROM's!

Just so much more out there with a custom ROM.

My Desire died last night.... :(
It fell out of my pocket and the LCD is gone.... no picture... the "touchscreen" digitizer is fine since I can unlock the phone... Select the phone and I hear the touch tones of the dial pad.
Any ideas how I can do a nandroid Backup? my phone is running MIUI-a the version released on 1 august.
Myoptions...
1) Send the phone to HTC, it's still under warranty but I doubt LCD breakage is covered
2) Buy an LCD digitizer from ebay and do a self repair...
3) take it to one of those Pakistani cell repair shops and let them do it....
4) throw the phone in the trash and use an el cheapo phone till my contract is due, April 2012.
5) look for a 2nd hand desire, restore my current rom + data to that.

Right now option 5 sounds best. But I'm inclined to think I won't find a desire below 2k

Any advice will be appreciated

Get a quote from HTC. Then decide. After that your best option is a Pakistani repair shop, if that doesn't work, i'd like your battery.

Also, why can't you do a backup via adb. (Not that I know how to do this.).

Managed to source an LCD had it installed today. It works. Obviously its not the same as before. But it works. Cost me R600

I flashed Oxygen onto my phone last night. So so so much better than Cyanogenmod! None of the random issues I used to have with CM!

My Desire moved to MIUI 1.8.12 from http://roms.miui.us/ running 2.3.5

I must admit I did hesitate because of the fact that its likened to iOS but it really grew on me. What I like is the added applications that is part of the OS.

Things like the Firewall and data monitor + alarm makes it well worth it. I like the fact that I can block per application what is allowed to use 3g vs wifi or even none, esp for add supported games. The File manager with summary and the media player library limiting mp3 view by minimum size is also a great. Everything just works from FM Radio to camera's.

Wow, that looks amazing! :D I think i'm going to flash it now. If I don't like it I'll just flash Oxygen back onto my phone.

It takes abit of getting used to but it certainly is one of the better roms around... tried gingervillain and leedroid, both excellent roms but been using miui-au for 2months now and enjoying it.

Flashed it and seems to have its issues. I installed the latest one that miui rom downloader downloads and the english language pack.
The miui account widget was still in chinese.
File explorer just closes (like a force close with no popup)
Settings -> Accounts also just closes yet I did manage to get my gmail/gtalk/market account working.

Reformatted SD card, cleared everything and reflashed it. Also downloaded miui-au in case.
Change partition on sd card to a lot less as before I had it at 4gb which was maybe a bit excessive in retrospect. I had an unmanageable amount of pointless apps on there and was still using hardly any.

Seems to be working a little bit better now.

That is interesting, I did not have any app force close on me yet. Everything works and is in English, been using it for 3 days now.

I dont know if it has any effects on what my final setup is but I 1st flashed the Desire ROM and laungage pack from http://miuiandroid.com/roms/miui-stable-roms/
also replaced the radio with the one found in Step 2 of http://en.miui.com/a-13.html When I saw how it works and looks I though I will give the beta a try and downloaded the rom from http://roms.miui.us/

I did not wipe/clear when I upgraded from 2.3.4a to 2.3.5

Anyway I dont know what I did or how it worked but this is the most stable ROM my phone has seen in a long time, so I dont think I will be changing it soon.

I also tried the iPhone theme as seen

before I settled for the theme shown http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...Screenshots!?p=6647350&viewfull=1#post6647350

I've set it up nicely and everything after flashing second time. Loving this rom now... think its a keeper!

rofl that was quick

It just wasn't for me hey, ill give it another go over the weekend maybe. It was a bit slow and laggy for me. I prefer speed and functionality to something that looks pretty (it looks amazing!)
