Yes ... but now I don't even have to bother with that. Anyway, your choice. I wonder how the Desire stands up to the concrete floor drop test? The iPhone fails BTW.
 
Skype is now available on the Android. You can get it from the Market. However, I can't get the app to sign in. Any one else with the same problem? Bog stand Desire with 2.2. Solutions? There's nothing on the Skype FAQ.
 
Just double check your caps lock when entering your password for skype, mine also didn't accept the pw few times then it took it.
Getting forced closes a few mins after u sign out of Skype tho. I'm sure they'll fix it soon

I signed in earlier in the evening, but couldnt a few hours later. Must be on their side

well i dropped my phone from about 1 meter onto tiles and it came out unscathed. Not a single dead pixel, no chips or cuts or anything. quite a sturdy phone :D
 
So I've been doing some light reading in this thread. theres a desire shortage in SA?

I ask because I am eligible for a new cellphone, and my mind is set on the Desire. whats the waiting period?

No one provided an adequate answer so I solved the login problem myself. Turns out that if you exit Skype using the home button, it's still runnning in the background. To switch off, go to settings > applications > running services. Turning Skype (15Mb!) off and on again solved the log in problem. I did a test call and connections are a bit dodgy. Call quality via WiFi is adequate but I get better on my PC.
So far, it's a fail from Skype.

I did the same and now the corner of my phone is dented in a bit - sits safely in a case now.

@crazymonkey - there is apparently, you might want to wait for the Desire HD which will (hopefully) be out next month.
 
Wow, only took me 100 pages to upgrade my desire to 2.2 :P

Finally got it to update from 1.51 to 1.21 and from there to froyo.

Damn you Vodacom and your stuffed branding!
