OFFICIAL HTC Desire Thread

Just wanted to know if the feature is there, i heard that qik can has the feature, im switching to an android phone this weekend been using symbian phones for quite a while I hope I wont regret it

Instant Heart Rate is a cool app. which you can get off the market. It uses your camera to measure your pulse rate and works pretty well.
I've removed Skype. Took too much space and too difficult to shut down.

I broke the cover for the lens (don't ask how) on my Desire. It's the little black ring and clear plastic bit that goes over the lens which is glued on and removable. Do you think I would be able to find a replacement and where?

I've just got my desire

Any tips on which apps to get and how to get my battery to last longer, but i must say i am impressed even though its very different from symbian

1. dont use any task killers.i tried them and found that without it battery lasted longer
2. screen brightness set in the middle.not the brightest
3. check your homescreen widgets update frequency and market update frequency
4. keep mobile data off when you not using it
5.keep wifi, blutooth, gps also off when you not using it

thanks, I was considering the task killer since i come from years of symbian phones but if it eats up my battery then its not worth it

Are you talking about active task killers, or passive killers that you manually use to kill tasks with?

I have ES Task Manager, that has a widget on my homescreen that I can press to clean tasks. If I don't press the widget, it doesn't do anything. My battery seems fine with it.

And then, just as an aside, I'm looking for either a 16gb or 32gb SD card for my trip to Israel - any suggestions on where to look?

Don't use task killers in an active sense. As in, your task killer shouldn't be monitoring your phone and automatically killing tasks. The only time you need it, is if you have an app that uses CPU time in the background unneccessarily. Then you can just manually kill it. However you can do this from the Android Settings Menu for Running Applications.

System Panel is a great monitoring app with a task killer ability. Check getandroidstuff.com for the not so lite version. ;)

That's a class 2 card without adapter

A class 4 (with adapter) at Nivo... R366
http://www.nivo.co.za/#buy~apacer.1...al.high.capacity.microsdhc.memory.card~p17327

The class of card determines the minimum transfer rates, not the maximum. So a good class 2 would be comparable to a class 4 in some cases. Apparently the motivation for a higher class, is HD video recording, and if you have a lot of write operations to the SD card (such as when you have APPS2SD). Anyhow, I would get it from Nivo. They're pretty solid.
