Official HTC One (M8) Thread

I've ordered mine from MTN in Durban 2 weeks ago. No news on when I can receive it yet as the guy said they aren't keeping stock in stores, rather they receive an order from the customer and then get it shipped to the store from JHB.

The contracts are rather disappointing. I was hoping there would be good deals that the S5 had, specifically on CellC (with the 1 gig data).

Saying that, when I got my HTC Desire on contract, it was without data :P

Data is really what matters to me. I think I'd rather go with MTN and roll with an Afrihost APN if I had to go the contract route.

Sigh, my M8 is getting picked up by DHL today :'(

Sorry to hear about your phone bud :(

Let us know how the experience returning it goes and when you receive the replacement.

Does anyone have this phone yet? Any ideas if we are getting the 16 or 32GB version?

I'm pretty torn between this and the Xperia Z2 at the moment, I've decided I don't care about the useless camera since I almost never use it anyways. I know the Z2 only has 16GB storage (Why???? It's 2014 FFS) so I'm hoping we get the decent version of the M8 at least. I don't understand how manufacturers can still release phones with less than 32GB. It should be the bare minimum.

quite a few people have it, 16GB. MTN one comes with a pouch.

Well that makes my choice easier. If I'm going to be stuck with tiny storage, I can just as well have more RAM and water resistance. I'll miss the Boomsound though.

Unless Vodacom brings in the 32GB edition...

I'm pretty sure that we would have heard of the 32gb version coming to Vodacom if that were the case. For now, it'll just be the 16gb version. Perhaps in future, things will change.

Also, both have SD card slots. Bought a 32gb microSD with a usb convertor for 199 yesterday.

They haven't announced which one it is, as far as I know.

I know about the slots and will be moving my existing 64GB card full of music and pics over, but internal storage is important for apps and games. If you only have 16GB, the OS takes about 5 (or 8 if it's Samsung) so you're left with only 10 or so. Games are 1-2GB each easily. Another hundred or so small apps and you've got a problem. And it's only going to get worse over the next 2 years, before I upgrade again.

HTC SA announced that we'd be getting the 32gig version. However MTN are offering the 16 gig version, so I'm sure Vodacom will be the same.

I installed all my apps and games and had about 5 gigs left.

I got mine :D

The last one in the WC according to MTN.

WOW. What a beaut. From a design standpoint nothing comes close to it. Boom sound on this thing is in a class of its own. I hate it when people play music on cell phones but on the M8 its amazing. Better than laptop speakers IMO and now I wont be booting up my PC or TV just to play the odd song. Its that good. Screen exceptional as well. Tried the camera and it actually looked pretty good! If you zoom in and crop your photos a lot its 4MP would be a problem as you run out of resolution fast.

There was a free cover in the box to with some real premium looking, tangle free earphones(yet to be tested).

The only problem is its a nano sim and the MTN woman assured me its microsim so now I'm stuck without a right sized simcard.

Ha ha, I got my nano-SIM about an hour before my phone arrived.

However I now sort of have the exact opposite problem. As my phone went back, I was stuck with a nano-SIM and an old S2 which takes the normal sized SIM.

Fortunately it stays in when slipping it in the slot. At least I got that going for me.

Where did u get the USB converter from?

Just played with one at Cellucity in Cavendish. They received 4 on Friday and have just one left.

I asked about stock at the other nearby branches and the saleman checked for me :

V&A - 10 Units
Kenilworth Centre - 6 Units
Canal Walk - 6 Units.

Looks and feels amazing. Just very big. Also, they only have the 16 gig Grey version.

Woot woot!

I got mine on Friday from Cellucity! yahoo.gif They already had it on Thursday for me but I couldn't take it home until my number port had been approved. Nevertheless I have it now, I'm still waiting for my number to be ported but I'll chalk that up to Vodacom being useless as usual, and I am beyond happy with it! :D

I bought it with the SD card. Quite a few brands come with it. Got mine from Computer Mania.

Also, you can find instructions to cut your sim to Nano size, which is what I did. I then have sim converters to upscale to any size. Got that off dx.com for dollar if I recall.

Is that the Gunmetal Grey? Disappointing that it 16gb but at least you can expand the memory.

Could have saved a lot of money by just buying from Esquire.

It looks to me like Esquire only offer Adata branded cards. I can't imagine the speed rating being as much as the Samsung ones. As I bought one with him, I am still happy with that purchase.

Slow speeds (both read and write) is a huge buzz-kill.

I bought a Kingston one there for R390 excluding VAT.

UHS-1 is UHS-1. One brand won't be slower than the next. That's the purpose of having standards.
