Official HTC One (M8) Thread

Likewise.

One thing I have noticed is the screen scratches a lot easier than my s3. Already a few minor scratches from who knows what.

On the metal side or glass side?

Mine stays in my pocket alone most of the time so still good for now. The tempered glass does give me that extra little sense of security....

Glass side. Very minor and not really noticeable unless you look at it very closely. The phones so beautiful I tend to so that everyday :D

Anyone rooted their device yet?

No, but I'm considering rooting my phone very soon as I am beyond frustrated by the limitations KK imposes on SD card access. I spent over R700 on an SDXC card and it's not paying for itself because apps are crippled by not having write access to the SD card anymore! I'm thinking of waiting to see if this comes to fruition in Android L otherwise I will just root my phone but leave it on stock and install the SD Fix mentioned on XDA.

What cases do you guys have? I was given the HTC double dip case but am having an issue with the fit. That SPigen case looks amazing..

I'm just using the rubber case the phone came with. It's doing a very good job at protecting the back from scratches so the only thing I need to worry about now is getting a decent screen protector. Though if I had to get a case I would lean towards the HTC Dot View case to get the pretty dot. I'm actually very tempted to get one!

Has anyone been able to find a screen protector in JHB for this phone? I called MTN and Vodacom and they have nothing. I really hate using the phone without the protector.

Hi guys

Saw this phone last night and fell in love

Please if i can ask for your honest opinions on this device

Just get it! No, I suppose you need to do your homework and all that, but at the end, you'll get it. If you want a body that will impress everyone, speakers that will put an ipad to shame, a UI that actually works - fast, a battery that makes leaves you trying to remember when last you charged, and a screen that jumps out at you then just do it.

Is the camera really as bad as what the reviews make it out to be

Not at all. It works well if you use it in the way that most people do. Don't take your wedding photos with it. Remember, reviewers will compare the functions of the phone and should be critical when a feature is inferior. However, the camera is good, compared to others, it's not great.

Apps like Whatsapp/Facebook compress the photo you take anyways so the whole argument that it 'isn't the best' is moot when it gets compressed all the same.

I've tried the search function, to no avail.

Does anyone have the M8 on contract with MTN? If so, what is the capacity of the device?

EDIT: Reading back a few pages gave me my answer. Slightly disappointing, but with the SD card slot, it is not a complete train smash.

I had also forgotten that HTC give you a case with the device. I'll still be ordering the Dot View case in any event.

I've seen a few mentions of the tempered glass screen protectors- can anyone say whether they are worth it? The HTC screen protector is cheap at Mobile Fun.

I got an SD card from Incredible Connection and working great.

As for the screen protector, if you decide to keep your phone naked (which you absolutely should due to the feel of the phone), then a 'proper' screen protector is essential. I got the Orzly at:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Premium-Tempered-Protective-Screen-Protector/dp/B00G4EN17K

Since I just dropped my phone yesterday and the screen protector did the job and took the impact, I would highly recommend this....

Thanks, will keep that in mind. I would prefer to keep the phone naked, it is too gorgeous to cover up.

Just a side note- looking at that screen protector, it is on the thick side, which would negate the ability of the Dot View case. But I'll definitely go tempered glass.

Still a while away, unfortunately. The nature of cancelling contracts is such a schlep :(

EDIT: How much was shipping for that screen protector?

For those that's not aware, software update 2.22.401.5 (Android 4.4.3) available on MTN and Vodacom

Updated to 4.4.3 and now I have a native file manager. Been longing for one and it seems to bypass Androids SD card restriction. Love my phone even more
