Has anyone bought an OTG adapter? I might get one eBay'd in, but heard the M8 is fussy with the OTG adapters

I'm using an old OTG I bought from a Chinese shop for my S4. Works with no issues.

Just update mine now...yahooo!
How is the update? Are you on Vodacom or MTN? I'm on Cell C an apparently it's out for us as well.. Well it's an Autopage Cell C contract, but still..

I've been a little scared to update as I read a few forums on AT&T and Verizon that said that the update runed the battery drainage, losing 1% battery every 10 minutes etc..

I'd be happy to get your thoughts on the update?

Thanks!

Hey Eviljim,

I've been running the updated firmware for a few weeks now and there's no change in my battery usage.
I did have an issue where M8 didn't always auto connect to my cars Bluetooth system, this was resolved with the update.

Only other major changes that I've noticed.
There is now a integrated File Manager, apparently it resolves a few of the Kitkat permission issues on the SD card.

They've also updated the camera software. When switching to manual mode and using very slow shutter speed, the camera preview doesn't give you a proper live feed anymore. This helps to alleviate the slow response and camera application crashes when using slow shutter speed.

Overall I'm very happy with the update.

The problem im having is that everyday, sometimes twice a day i have to reset it. Somehow it defaults back to automatic. Anyone else experiencing this and how can i remedy it ?

Yesterday I was quite pleased to see that an update was downloading.

4.4.4 and the new HTC Eye camera software coming through.

I'm still a bit behind in the selfie craze, so that didn't blow me away. Quite stoked at getting 4.4.4 though. The major disappointment is it seems that the EU version of the phone I have decided to get a German update. The only way I know that is because of the software version number, google translate and the fact that the Germans have the same disappearing Extreme Power saving mode as I do :/

I don't understand why on earth I had it before, and now it's been removed. URGH.

Any one else got the blurry camera problem yet?

There is basically an anti glare coating on the camera that is easily scratched without much effort, even if you are super careful it will get scratched and seems to happen to them all. Once the coating is scratched the camera struggles to focus and is super blurry.

People are saying rubbing the lens with Brasso or even toothpaste removes the coating and you have clear photos again but then no anti-glare?? Design flaw.

Haven't noticed that yet. Wonder if that coating is something a specialist photography/camera shop could re-apply?

Not sure.

Seems like HTC know about the problem. They told me to send it in. It seems like quite a few people got brand new phones.

Who did you contact and where did you send it in? Mine has those scratches and I've read a thread where they talk about removing the film, but some in the USA have had success with sending it into HTC for repair/swap out. I'd prefer to send it in and see what happens.

I'm on MTN - who do we contact?

In the end I didn't take it in as I don't have a spare phone with a nano sim and I can't be without a phone for a day.

I tried polishing my lens with colgate/aquafresh and it seems to have worked well.

Sweet, I'm going to try this tonight. I'm having trouble focusing and pics are blurry.

Did you just use an ear bud and toothpaste, and wipe for a few minutes?

Yeah, ear bud with toothpaste for a minute or two.

Then wiped the residue off with another damp ear bud.

Finally polish with micro fibre cloth.

So I couldn't handle the Sony anymore and I went ahead and bought M8. It's crazy that Orange is selling the phone for R7450 and Vodacom will sell it to you for R11 thousand odd... My wife loves the Z2 and we have both agreed that we are both not getting Samsung in the future.

Now to research rooting the M8... :D

I am on Vodacom and my OTA upgrade was two weeks ago. Running smoothly since, no hiccups.
Updated - everything seems ok. Really don't like the round profile icons in Whatsapp tho.
