Lets give more credit to the depressing WI team.

Utter rubbish.

Not selecting Bravo and Pollard is a joke.

Same applies to Aus with england helping them with dreadfull fielding.

Yes they dropped Finch on zero but what after that? Dropped catches dont count.

If anything the England bowling, especially at death was woeful.

Beating the Aussies in Oz would be fantastic as well. Amla and AB cleaving their bowling attack in twain in the process.

Will have to figure a way how to play Starc up front. If they can take him on and make him misfire after that then they have a chance. High risk. Or try and play them out and take chances later.

Anyway, the depth of Aussies is the key. Effectively you are in tail with Behardien and Philander, they can bat but not reliable. Behardien is not up to this level imo. Then hopefully Steyn can slog a few but Tahir and Morkel are dead set bunnies.

In Aussie team, Johnson, Starc and Hazelwood can all bat in tail. They have runs in tail while still having their best attack.

Catches win matches and considering finch made 40% of the aussie total that is a rather big turning point. Ofc not to say no one else makes runs but it was a big difference maker. Maxwell was dropped by butler on 46 and ended up making 66 + 2 run out chances missed as well. All these add up...

Sure the aussie lineup has more depth then the SA lineup. But SA has had more depth then the aussie lineup in the past and it hasn't mattered.

SA will have to decide do the continue with the bits and pieces of behardien or go with rossouw and back jp to bowl 10 with little help from ab,rillee and faf or do they take a gamble on the enigma that is parnell.

We really need 1 bowler that can keep it tight no matter how good the batting conditions are. Our 3 fast bowlers are all very good and take wickets but we need that one guy that consistently gives us 10 overs at less than 4.0-4.5 aka pollock economy. We lose control of the game too fast for my liking.

Rusty, But then we have 4 bowlers who cant bat at all, the tail becomes a little long. If Behardien could only bowl :crying:

What I have been saying from the start. He offers us more as a bowler than Behardien is offering us with bat and ball.

Dont think Behardien will survive with his bowling on these 300+ pitches. he will just get smacked all over the place.
Parnell is the best option and he is good for a 20-30 with the bat.

Parnell goes for runs as well, but is a better potential wicket taker.

The slow wickets should suit Behardien! It's harder getting the slower bowlers away on a slow deck! Part of the reason Dale and co are so ineffective on these slow decks is due to the pace they generate. Ball comes on nicely!

It's complicated :p

Yesterday's pitch started off slow...but by the time the last 30 overs of our innings came around the pitch had quickened up and hitting through the line was much easier (Zim had no trouble with Behardien \ Duminy in the second innings). Only the accuracy of Philander and accuracy + slight mystery of a leggie (Tahir) actually stood out as something that contained their strokeplay a bit.

So basically selection is not an easy task...there often isn't a right or wrong answer i.e. whatever the team selection is on a given day has a chance of being optimal or not working out.

Good variation but he bowls his googly so often he should be classified as an off spinner.

The pitches in NZ have been very slow and favouring the slower bowling....making early batting hard and rendering the faster guys less effective...these played against teams like SA and WI

You wonder if the pitches aren't tailored to spec to level the game and give some of the teams an advantage (or disadvantage as the case may be)?

In the case of Ireland v West Indies, Simmons stated that the pitch would not suit the slower ball. Yet the West Indies' bowlers still misread the pitch and overdid the slower ball.

I am NOT staying up to watch tonight's game, regardless of the teams playing.

At least you had the "privilege" of staying up for some of the games :p

Enjoy your sleep, Sire :)
