Just ran the numbers;

When accounting for extras, 54.6% of all runs scored by us came from Amla, AB and Faf.

I think everyone is making way too much of Abbott. So he got 4/21 against Ireland - his only outstanding bowling performance so far, also his best. There is still 8 SA bowlers ranked higher than him on the ODI bowling rankings. His other performances he was the most expensive fast bowler in the games. Only Faf and Duminy was once more expensive than him on one occasion each.

.

It is not about Vern bs Abbott or who is the best. Its about changing a winning team's mojo straight after winning our first knock out game. If the team could win by a huge margin against SL with Abbott contributing big (and the full bowling unit), then then keeping the team (and bowling unit) as is to take the momentum into the next game is surely the obvious choice. Not change the opening bowler with someone who is struggling with injury. When I heard they dropped Abbott I was thinking WTF?

Oir management is not what it should be.

Its like groundhog day, nothing will change.
The Donalds, Hudson and the rest of the idiot crews will still stay there and keep there jobs.
Its a mental problem, stop the arrogance and start respecting opposition, all opposition.

In a nutshell, we havent beaten and quality sides yet.
Lost to Ind and Pak, I honestly think SL lost that game, we did beat them, then lost to NZ.

I would have expected a greater disparity so I'm quite happy with those numbers.

I dunno, that is a large percentage from a side that often operates with 7 batsmen when Miller is included.

Stirring for what?
Just stating a fact, you are stirring by blaming Philander when Steyn, who should be the main strike bowler was crap yesterday, and never did anything of note the whole tournament.
He never led the attack at the start of innings and couldnt finish it off either.

You cannot rely on what used to work and test type bowling, which is the predictable stuff he (and Vern) dished up. Look at what Boult and Starc does , and look at how Hazlewood plays his role...the batting has changed and the bowling have to make changes and react to that.

I AM NOT blaming Philander - I was pointing out that he WASN'T the SAVIOUR that the troll made him out to be.

Do not put words into my mouth!

The fact that Steyn bowled utter tripe in his opening spell and was unable to bowl six high quality balls in the final over is an entirely other matter.

Why so much hate for Vern when Steyn had an absolute shocker? Our primary strike bowler didn't get the wickets and JP aside (a part-timer really), he was our most expensive bowler.

I don't think people are hating on Vern (well I'm not anyway) - people are simply pointing out that the selectors missed a trick with not going with the in-form, match fit bowler who did the business in the quarters.

Big Vern is a great bowler, and with a bit of luck, could have done the business.

Steyn, the less said about his poor performance the better imo...

Agreed! Over the last 5 years the Proteas have a higher win ration than any other team in ODI cricket.

Very painful defeat this! We had it, we let it go, then we had it again, then we let it go again!!! 7 hours of pure torture/exhilaration. Emotionally, I think the cricket spectator invests so much more than in any other sport!

:D

those last few overs I was finished - completely drained :D

+1

I'm actually impressed that we were within 2-balls of the final.

Even though we bat to 7, how many of those batsmen can we actually count on? If you look at this tournament, Amla, Faf and AB have carried this team from a batting perspective. I will disagree with you and say we do have two of the best batsmen in the world though, but they can't always be the ones we rely on.

On to the bowling, we've only really had Tahir. The seamers have been abject.

The lack of a true all-rounder has hurt as well. With Miller at 7 we get a batsmen. With Philander at 7 we get a bowler. With Behardien/Parnell at 7 we get. . .who knows what we get.

ROFL - lucky packet on the day :D

We can't do everything 100% all of the time, even less so under that amount of pressure.

That's why we aren't cricket players, playing on the highest level. Playing on the highest level is for exceptionally talented people, and it comes with higher expectations.

AB was nervous as **** yesterday. His fielding was rubbish. If you see your leader ****ting his pant, you would do the same.

So, who are you guys supporting in the next game?

I'm going to support India - they beat us in the Group Stage, and imo the team that beat us deserve to go through.

and besides, Australia...can't support Australia in cricket - they're our nemesis
