Official ICC 2015 CWC thread

No it's an insult to a lot of bowlers to rate Abbott that highly. He's not good. Remember what i said, he's the worst ODI seamer in SA's history since the start of the 21st century!

What stats are you referring to? Please post them here. Post a list of all of the pace bowlers after 12 matches. Looking at final figures, Hayward was kept for 21 matches and only had a marginally better average. If you look at some of those matches you will notice that he had very good spells. He was economical. Maybe didn't get wickets but was often unlucky.

Play around with this as you wish. He'll still be worse than Zondeki!

Yes I believe in stats!

Abbott among our very worst ever! Worse than Botha&Phangiso who don't strike much either. Just look where Parnell is.

Look for Abbott somewhere at the bottom of this list, and check for some of our less illustrious names above him, yet they were discarded and he's at the CWC.

Oh, you are looking at strike rate. Let me turn the tables, if I look at economy rate, your precious Parnell sits in exactly the same position. 4th from the bottom of the first page. You can't just look at one measure.

Must be whinging about his average of 45 odd, which is not the greatest.
He goes for 4.92 an over which is pretty good.
Parnell is close to 6 an over, but has a lower average.

Remember, ZCF is master in manipulating stats/facts to suit his cause, honestly no use in arguing.

I rated Abbot from the start, very good bowler. in the same sentence Parnell is very dangerous when he is on fire. If we had a better bowling coach I suspect we would have seen a different Parnell.

Yes, old jk8 said the windies are going to win this one.

Who looks at economy in this day&age?

What was the Proteas' run rate early in this ODI and look where they ended? In most of Abbott's games they'd see him off for 4/5 and smash him later. Th eonly reason he's bowled and used to open is because he's only useful when batsmen are being watchful. Put him anywher else and he'll disppear. Just as he was when pulld out of the attack. Abbott got wickets, but he didn't bowl all that well. He wasn't bowling as well as Holder did against Amla & Faf+QDK.

i think Morkel is paying for the selector's lack of courage to drop him. He's been average for a long time and rarely turns up these days.

Now Morkel is useless? If you look at the last 10 games that Parnel has played and the last 10 games that Morkel has played you will notice that Morkel has 18 wickets and Parnell 17. I didn't work out the averages or economy rates but at a glance, Parnell looked to be worse off on those too.

You're clutching at straws here bud. I'm not manipulating anything. I can't manipulate tens of our players since the 90s just to accomodate Abbott. He's not good. Plain&simple.

The only thing that stick out here is that Abbott has been so pathetic in tests & ODIs, he's had a few good overs and all of a sudden his defenders are longer than the Nile.

It's a pity the likes of Parnell&Farhaan can never get this when they come right, even though their moments of mediocrity never come close to Abbott's!

That's a second double-wicket over and South Africa are hot on the heels of anothe record - the largest margin of victory in ODIS. Three wickets to get and a cushion of 50 runs left
