Official ICC 2015 CWC thread

What type of bowler is he then because he wasn't much different at the death from earlier. His 3 death overs went at 11 an over and there were 2 wickets whereas his previous 6 overs went at 8.5 but there were no wickets.

No other bowler SA has cost more than 5.9 to the over, even our part timer Duminy. Parnell is at 9.44. That's 40 odd extra runs there. The difference between India getting 307 and 267 right there.

What you miss is that if Parnell did not play then the Indians would have targeted a different bowler. This happens in every game... a specific bowler gets targeted. If that bowler pulls through then they will target another bowler. It is seldom that every bowler gets targeted in a game.

True, but having him in makes it so much easier to select a most likely target - seen as he almost always offers himself up.

In this case India seemed to be targetting the bad balls. Up until the late wobble they really didn't have to take any risks.

Parnell is an ill disciplined bowler.

I think we should export parnell to either West indies or Pakistan lol he would fit right in with his bowling either hot or cold never any consistency......

He seems like a good person and capable of bowling really well if he keeps the right lines but he was really throwing this game away, very frustrating for us arm chair coaches...maybe he should sacrifice some pace for accuracy.

Agree with that mostly though what happens if Parnell executed his job better and went for 50-60? Suddenly we're chasing a par score of well under 300.

Captaincy can get you so far but your individuals have to execute their jobs or you have a problem.

The moment I saw Parnell was going to play I knew our chances of winning dropped drastically

47.5 Parnell to Dhoni, FOUR, short again and Dhoni pulls it away to the left of short fine leg. Parnell is disintegrating here
47.4 Parnell to Dhoni, FOUR, low full-toss on off stump and that is inviting trouble with mid-off and mid-on in the circle. Dhoni clears his front leg and brutalises it down the ground, between the stumps and the non-striker
47.3 Parnell to Dhoni, FOUR, short ball on leg stump, and that is very well done. Fine leg is in the circle, square leg is on the rope, and he swivels and finds the gap perfectly with the controlled short-arm pull

That's not being targeted, that's poor bowling.

Philanders injury restricted our ability to protect Parnell's bowling.

In normal circumstances, he would never have got 9 overs.

still a very poor show by parnell. I expected more from him

Wayne Parnell sets new world cup record for SA.

"Wayne Parnell's economy rate (9.44) is the worst in a World Cup match for South Africa by anyone bowling at least nine overs and the equal fourth worst in all World Cup matches."

It's no like Parnell is an all rounder. If you are a specialist bowler and you bowl more than 5 overs you shouldn't blame being given too much overs to bowl. He shouldn't be in the team in the first place. You can't play someone with the goal of carrying them.

Parnell's performance today has pretty much been Morkel ususal form these days so I don't know what the fuss is about.

I personally said Parnell must be selected ahead of Morkel and given the new ball. I don't know why they selected him and only brought him into the attack in the 18th over with two set batsmen in the mould of Kohli&Dhawan. That's downright stupid whichever way you look at it.

Right now Parnell is a better strike bowler than Steyn&Morkel, and when you have Philander opening the bowling, you need the better strike bowler operating at the other end. Not "unleash him" after Morkel has just been going at 6-7 rpo.
