I think the second run out was 'less dumb' than the first. Firstly, by then SA were desperate, being 5 down or whatever it was. There had been a seriaas conversation at the start of that over between Miller and Parnell and I think the gist of it would've been to give Miller as much of the strike. While the run was suicidal, it could be understood, if not condoned.

The first one was just plain dumb. They didn't need to take a second at that stage. Also, if you look at the line AB ran, he took a wide turn when he got down to the non strikers end. In a run out of millimeters, this made all the difference. Factor in that he never put in a dive either, and the result was inevitable.

Still, spilt milk and all that... The top order needs to sort itself out, and fast.

Parnell is a wicket taking bowler, you need to use him wisely, it was a shlep that Phillander was injured and Parnell had to be used out of his normal role. 307 was a good score to restrain India to in my opinion.
Dhoni, Kohli, Sharma could have all fired with any bowling combos we have, 320+ was on the cards.

The injury to Philander was the cause for most of the flack on Parnell, granted that he bowled like a school kid. Parnell was never supposed to bowl so many overs unless he did well, remember he was the extra bowler and wouldve shared 10 overs with Duminy with both looking to get a few wickets between them. Batting was just shocking... Every player took risks when they werent needed in the top 6. Faf trying to go over the top with players falling around him, AB running himself out when we were busy taking back control and De Kock trying to go after them from the first ball. Hopefully they forget about this loss, drop Parnell and bring in Behardien or Abbott in the next game and focus on batting sensible.

Agreed, Behardien would have been the better choice on such a huge cricket ground, the Indian batsmen use their wrists to play, to hit Behardien for a 6 on that ground would no have been easy as hitting Steyn, Morkel or Parnell.
 
Have there been any further word on Philander? He coming back at all during the tournament?

Was strange that they went for Parnell, maybe the injury Behardien had is still giving him some trouble.

Ray Jennings, that was the U19's coach greatest concern was how these young prospects would be managed.
 
What's the latest on Vern? Grade 1-2 tear could see him out for 2 to 4 weeks! That's basically the world cup! Wouldn't mind seeing Tsosobe getting a call up! We live in hope!! Hey outcast? The silver bullet the team so desperately needs?

Or alternatively Parnell or Abbott start every match here on in... :sick:

No! This is just it. Japes can race through his overs. If a wicket falls, he can come on and rattle through 5 or 6 overs. He's not known as the man with the golden arm for nothing. His economy rate is no worse than say Parnell's or Abbott's but there's this perception that he's a bit part bowler.

In terms of the batting order though? Hmm, tough call. Still think that QdK is better at the top of the order than in the middle.

Agree re the bowling comment. From how Quinton approached his last innings, he looks like number 7 material...he top-edged the first ball for four (lucky) and then drove at one that wasn't there to drive...he seems to have forgotten about building an innings and attacking after he has the pace of the pitch.
 
Our approach and attitude in the next game will be telling. A good clinical and comprehensive victory would set us up nicely for the rest of the tournament. Come to think about it, a series against WI and a first game vs Zim and then suddenly India (in India basically) was a bit of a shock.

I don't like this one bit. If his role was to be a bits and pieces bowler who bowled 5 overs then what the hell is he doing in the side since he can't bat either?

He lost us that game. The extra 40 runs he gave to India was the difference between a comfortable run chase and us being under pressure from the first ball.

In 40 odd games he has won us 2 matches. One against Banglashesh and one against a bad Australian side. He has lost us a hell of a lot more than that.

Get rid of him. He brings absolutely nothing to the table. If he hasn't lived up to his potential in 40 games he never will.
