Official ICC 2015 CWC thread

The openers are in any case sacrificial lambs. So why not try something radical. What rule says you have to open with the best? The traditional tail might just end up surprising us.

If I was going to drop anyone, it would be Steyn.
Abbott: best: 4/21 Av 12.87 Econ: 4.12
Morkel: best: 3/34 Av: 18.8 Econ: 4.54
Steyn: best 2/29 Av: 30.14 Econ: 4.90

(I'm not sure if this has been updated with today's game)

I am surprised at Steyn's econ, thought it was much worse.

400 against any international team is superb.

In the context of the world cup it does mean nothing. To win this world cup we need to beat NZ, India, England (Laugh if you want - we are looking worse than England right now.), Sri Lanka. Not bully a bunch of amateurs.

This team can do precisely that. Scoring 400 against WI is a step towards that goal.

Don't you think it might be embarassing for the Proteas to send tialenders in to open? Afterall What if AUS decide to send Mitch&Starc against us, with Faulkner&Maxwell/Marsh in next an dthey end up with 200-4? What would that say about our strategy when they outdo our top order.

I've always asked myself why Pakistan never send Afridi in during the middle overs, he'd almost always get 30-40+ in lighting speed, as opposed to 15-20 odd then out towards the end. That makes more sense than sending Steyn&Morkel in.

Proteas should just throw in the towel now (It looks like they have given up already.)

They thrash a minnow on a flat track and everyone thinks we are so great. The moment we face even the most average team we can't handle the pressure. We almost lost against Zimbabwe and now we lose against a poor Pakistan team.

The fact is that this is the most underperforming South African cricket team I have ever seen.

They talk about treating the world cup as just another series which is just pathetic. This is the World Cup ffs. They need to start playing as if they have even a shred of pride in the country they are representing.
400 against a minnow and a broken WI team which is arguably the weakest in 40 years means nothing.

Look at the game against Zim where we barely managed to beat them or India who thrashed us to get a more realistic view of where the team is.

Hell, this Pakistan team is average at best and were on top of us for most of the match.
Wow boet!

IMO it doesn't matter who we pick. De Kock dropped or down the order, Philander or Abbot/Morkel. We just don't have the character/mental strength or whatever the hell it is you need to win a WC.

South Africa - Bilateral Word Champions

ZM 133-4. Everything depends on this partnership. Personally I wouldn't mind seeing Whatmore suffer a 100 run defeat to Ireland.

At least the huge net run rate keeps us above Paki at the moment.

I can't understand why AB didn't bat first. We are really useless at chasing...

Ya, tonight proved once again that we struggle to chase. Win the toss, bat first against SA.

This team can do precisely that. Scoring 400 against WI is a step towards that goal.

No, it really isn't. That win against WI was just a continuation of our mental dominance we achieved at home.

Or do you honestly think we can win this world cup if we can't beat Pakiatan or India?

From heros to zeros. I think SA problem is a mental block when it comes to chasing in a WC under lights.

Its a huge monkey on our backs that needs to be addressed. I have no doubt that if we had batted first another 400 would've been on the cards.

It was a measly total that could've easily been chased down but somehow the saffers seem to panic and commit suicide. The classic choke. Its like a fking parasite.

I honestly believe that we can, and if anything we're losing at the right times now, and it may result in better next round preparation. I'm not as negative as many are about our CWC chances this year. :)
