Official ICC 2015 CWC thread

It really sucks! :(

any chance that cricket had of going global was ruined when the BCCI, ECB and ACB took control of the ICC. Now, its just a money making exercise seeking to protect the interest of the dominant parties.

Lambie! What a find! You'd think the least they would do is say he moved onto different playing fields? :D

There are a few of these guys who could have gone both ways.... I'd love someone do to a full article or series of articles on some of these players and how they ended up.

A little research shows that after playing for Wollaston, not Wollastan, in 2011 he played only 3 games for Phoenix in the Irish League in 2012. From there he 'progressed' to Holmesdale where he has been playing for the last 2 seasons. That's in the Kent 3rd Div, yes, 3rd Div. He took 24 wickets in 24 games for Wollaston at 30.63 with a SR of 41.88. Not to shabby but also nothing to get excited about.

His figures for Holmesdale in the 3rd Div is quite impressive but obviously not good enough to impress anyone in a higher league. Over the 2 seasons he's taken 84 wickets at an average of 15.45, SR 26.17, Economy rate 3.54. Looking at the SR and ER it would appear that he bowls many wicket taking balls interspersed with a lot of loose balls.

I feel sorry for this man. The quota system led him to believe that he is much better than he really is. Bit weird complaining about opportunities in SA when he's playing in a lower league in Eng than he did in SA.

Other side of the quota coin.

Ah, the word they used to describe the thing with that Top Gear fella :p

Among many others, of course.

OT: Since you're Scottish, you must love Gordon Ramsay. Started watching Masterchef a few weeks ago - the guy's a legend. No bull****.

So it's pretty much a given that we're playing Sri Lanka in the quarter finals. Will be a tough one as Sri Lanka are looking good.

SL's final form will be unleashed when we get to the serious business of the CWC.

+1.

Cricket related: This Siphe Mzaidume oke is in the news again, and full of excuses as usual.

Wondering if he is actually TrollKast.
:D
A young Black cricketer, Siphe Mzaidume, like some of his peers, has had to migrate to the land of the colonisers’ origin in order to stand a greater chance of progress with them than the settlers back in his home South Africa. This is damning! Kagiso Rabada is the latest young sensation, our star seamer of this year’s u19 World Cup. Remember that name brothers and sister, because while it may be hot right now, it won’t be long before Hudson and his gang extinguish it completely.

The only place you’ll see it if fortunate is behind the desk as a sidekick panellist or commentator on Supersport, or SABC if they are offered the screening at cut price, assuming of course they haven’t imported another Mpumelelo Mbangwa from another African country just like they did with Tendai Beast Mutawaria in rugby, as if to say there aren’t thousands of Black South Africans involved the game while they are actually being systematically and effectively sidelined.
That's what I penned sometime back, over a year ago actually. We shall see.

This is what I have been saying all along. The ICC and their henchmen (BCCI, CA and ECB) are intent in monopolising the game whereas it should be global. How the heck will the so-called minnows ever learn the art of facing Mitchell Johnson or Dale Steyn [-]or Stuart Broad[/-] or learn to bowl to AB or Virat Kohli [-]or Eoin Morgan[/-] if they never get opportunity.

I desperately want a level playing field. I desperately want to see more teams fighting close games like Bangladesh versus England... wait... poor choice. Sorry :( You know what I mean. Good grief, ICC! Come right!
Nice to see you batting for the Associates. It's a good thing you;re a Scotsman. It would be a weird thing for A South African to say that considering close to 25 years after re-admission, ther's not a single Black in the Test or ODI XI! I've always found it weird that Wouter Basson, who used to develop chemical weapons - apparently to deal with the Brits&Yanks in case they decide to invade us, nothing to do with his countrymen - was tasked with spreading the game in the country! Some things even the greatest of writers can never script even if they tried. :D

Anyway to the cricket, you guys refused to play Zimbabwe in the Intercontinental Cup some years ago didn't you?

I enjoy watching him too, but someone must seriously punch that guy in the face. I'm bad with accents/dialects, but this guy sounds more English than Scottish.

I wouldn't fear them much after today. I was apalled by the way they went about things. Should've easily gotten over 400, and bowled these guys out for well under 150.

Poor professionalism. Taking your foot off th epedal like that can work against you as you may struggle to psyche yourself up fo rbigger challenges. Right now I think the Sri Lankans have shifted form having a competitive edge to enjoying themselves, being a little overconfident. They will pay for this. I think only Mahela will be pumped up and focused, mostly due to the fact that he hasn't done as well as he might have liked. On song no one can match his class of the recent past&current generation, but I think if the others don't support him, in Faf, Amla, JP, AB, Rilee&QdK we'll have enough to set or chase. The other is Herath, but lack of game-time shoul dmake him less of a threat.

Injuries have weakened them too. Their reserve and part-time have gotten a lot of mileage in but I doubt it's done them enough good that they'll be sufficient threat to us.

Right now Proteas will go in as underdogs but after today I think I'll give them the nod, which I wasn't going to do initally.

They're my traditional second-favourites after SA...I like the way they approach the game. There isn't any of the arrogance and cockiness people seem to think you must have at the top-level so I usually root for them when they're not playing SA. Doesn't hurt they've had some great players to watch through the years (Aravinda, Jayasuriya, Sangakarra, Murali etc.).

SA have all the tools to beat them on the day...I think if we put it together on the field in the first knock-out game, we could go all the way. All that's missing from our game is the confidence that comes from having done it. SL have that big game temperament that lets them punch above their weight...we need to find it.

I've started preparing myself mentally for the disappointment of defeat! It's like every 4 years someone in the family dies.
