Official ICC 2015 CWC thread

Yep we quite entitled to make general comments based on what has been 'put out there', and can compare him to AB based on contribution to game, plus the value of his wicket...all things that have been stated on this forum...not asking for your feedback thanks, we already know what it is.

Afridi is not the most popular cricketer on earth, never has been, if that were the case he would be worth $30M not Dhoni, and before that Tendulkar.

:D

Well spoken. What he forgot to mention was that he was referring to what he believes in his own head and thus it's in his own dream world where everything is possible.

Perhaps if he bats against the blind school. He really is a k@k batsman. :)

Only the blind fail to acknowledge that Afridi is by far the biggest star the game has ever known or will ever know.

Alastair Cook: Afridi is a power house for Pakistan.

Michael Holding: Cricket is not cricket without Shahid Afridi.

Viv Richard: Never seen a ball tearing player in cricket history.

Geoffrey Boycott: He is a power house, my favourite player of all time.

Yuvraj: Even after hitting 6 sixes, cant even come close to Afridi's fame.

You don't even have an inkling just how much Afridi would be worth in Inida alone - forget PAK and the rest of the world - if the Indian govt and the BCCI ever allowed him to be marketable there. Just the tiny amount of fame KP got at his zenith - the highest compared to all other foreigners should give you an idea.

Lol. Afridi's vastly overrated. Just like Gayle. They rarely do well when under pressure. He's a pretty good spinner but that's it.

Our openers must try and survive the Boult/Southee new ball onslaught. Boult took a fiver against us in the warm up game.

This is why I don't understand the obsession some have with seeing QDK failing?! Unless they have alterer motives? Any true fan, not only of the Proteas, but the game of cricket, would want to see a flourishing opening pair of Amla/QDK. Imagine the 2 of them playing to their full potential for the next 2 games??? Will be devastating for NZ/Oz but a real treat for spectators.

I guess that's only a certain person that WANTS to see him fail.

It looked like he has his mojo back. And one of the commentators made a good point in that he waited for the ball more during this innings, but in previous matches he was almost poking at the ball because he was so desperate to get back into form. So his problem, as with most sportsmen, was 99% mental. Hopefully he plays with more freedom from now on.

Though he should still fully expect that he can get an absolute jaffer at any time, early in his innings, and hopefully that doesn't deject him before the final. :p

Even the South African crowd couldn't help themselves. We had Smith, Amla, AB & Steyn on that pitch but all of them combined would not be able to match the stardom of Afridi.

That's the spirit :D

49/2

/looks at Aussie batting line-up

**** that's deep. 2 wickets is still nothing. Another quick 1 or 2 will really put an interesting spin to the rest of this match.

100 / 5 and it will get interesting...

That happened in 2013. I'm talking about NOW. He's been terrible so far in this WC. Hope he retires after tonight's match to save whatever remains of his dignity.

LOL. This guy is special. He's just trolling like a pro.

Based on 1999, we should bring back Lance Klusener.

‘Baba Boom Boom Out’ — this is what unorthodox Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi’s daughter once called him for his reckless style of batting. Ever since he hit a 37-ball hundred in only his second one-day international, Afridi has been a cult figure.

On Sunday, Zimbabwe’s Sean Williams got a quicker left-arm ball to straighten and bowl out birthday man Afridi on a duck, breaking the hearts of millions of fans already disconsolate after their team lost to India in their first World Cup game. West Indies later condemned a hapless Pakistan to a 150-run rout in their second game.

While age is fast catching up and his form is sliding now, Afridi’s batting style has always been under the scanner. He has a batting average of 23.52 runs, the lowest for any player with more than 5,000 runs in the ODI format. The statistic records the average number of runs a batsman scores per innings.

Afridi’s buccaneering style of trying to smash every other ball out of the park has often infuriated cricket fans and his teammates. Afridi’s former captain Wasim Akram is known to have repeatedly told him not to throw his wicket away, but that did not change the 35-year-old’s ways.

Afridi’s reckless streak caused several fans to go into a meltdown mode on Twitter on Sunday.

If you consider him a bowling all-rounder his average of 33 is a lot worse than even some of the batting all rounders such as Jacques Kallis and Watson. And if you consider him as a batting all-rounder well then spare a thought you might be watching the wrong sports.

For me he is the most overrated cricketer in the history of this beautiful sports. The fact that he is hailed as a legend in Pakistan is a true reflection of how low our standards have dropped. If Pakistan cricket needs to rise to the top once again we need to set higher standards and not be content at mediocrity ( Afridi is a mediocre player at best ).

Lol yeah. He's pretty good at trolling without getting banned. Eks wouldn't last 5 minutes in this thread.

It doesn't take much to make Watson lose his cool :D That's how you get him out! Everybody knows it.

Why is he still not banned?

Talking up Afridi ffs?

Afridi is utter utter ****e he barely averages over 20.
