Official ICC 2015 CWC thread

People blaming selection \ various off field issues need to answer a question honestly...if we'd executed to our potential on the field, would we have won? For me the answer to that is yes - and that then logically means that selection was not the problem. If we had taken the opportunities we created, we would have won easily...maybe we would have won more easily if the rain hadn't come down but that was not ultimately decisive.

Stop the blame game...you saw what the team could do in the QF, we couldn't reproduce that under pressure and we lost. It's that simple...selection, Alan Donald etc. have nothing to do with it. Even if Alan Donald gives the bowlers bad advice, after the first couple go the boundary, do you think Dale \ Vernon wouldn't change the plan of their own accord? They're not accountable to Donald...they're accountable to themselves, the captain, the coach, the public...least of all Alan Donald.

I dunno, that is a large percentage from a side that often operates with 7 batsmen when Miller is included.

3 out of the 7 contributed 54%. that means the remaining 4 only contributed 46%. Take into account batting positions, time at crease and their respective abilities ( Amla and AB being BOSSES) and you should come to the realization that it isn't so bad.

Ja, but AD is our albatross...

Everytime I see his face on TV I get flashbacks to that day....

Agreed!! Well said!

About the rain... Soon after play resumed Faf was out! More likely the break effected his dismissal. Enter David Miller!! 49 from 17 is as destructive a knock as anyone played on the day so had Faf not got out David may never have come in and played that knock!

I see AD is the one to motivate the bowlers and get the best out of them. Coach them on the intricacies of the slow ball, death bowling and the in-swinging yorker! Charl was brought on for much the same reason. We saw none of that. Steyn, has without a doubt, been the disappointment of the world cup for me! IMHO his form has been the difference between winning and dominating this competition VS a credible SF exit...

NZ's success has been built primarily on the back of Boult and Southee destructive new ball bowling!! Every team they've played has been 3 or 4 down by the 15th over! That sets them up for the win in each and every fixture!

This.
Adding to that we all hoped that Steyn and Philander could pull of a similar, or at least close, performance during the first 15 overs. Unfortunately they just didn't have any answers for the destructive batting in the first 5 overs. Aside from the rain and everything else you've mentioned this for me is what made the difference in the end.
That being said, I'll be very surprised if they don't win this thing..

+1

We went in with no consistant 5th bowler.
If Behardiens job was to be the all rounder use him!

So, who are you guys supporting in the next game?

I'm going to support India - they beat us in the Group Stage, and imo the team that beat us deserve to go through.

and besides, Australia...can't support Australia in cricket - they're our nemesis

The umpires.

Kidding. New Zealand. I just love the way they play the game under McCullum.

No one, Cricket doesn't exist

You may also pick New Zealand.

I want India to win...the final can be a clash of unbeaten teams. I like the fearful symmetry.

That would make for one helluva final.

India are on a win streak (in world cups) stretching back to previous world cup - 11 matches. They last world cup match they lost, was against us.

Interestingly, at the last world cup our leading wicket taker was Robin Peterson.

Great weather in sydney today, no rain forecast, possibly some cloud cover later and 27 deg
