I want to drop him from the 20/20s! And I am not alone in this. This is not the 1st time his slow batting has cost us.

He is one of the best test players in the world. And good enough to be in the 50 over team. But he is NOT a 20/20 player.

I think we need different team for different formats.

This team is perfect for ODI and T20.

For tests I would drop Botha, Roelf and Parnell (he still has a bit to learn) and add Amla, M Morkel and Harris. Albie for Parnell/prince is also a choice.

Nope, Afridi gets himself out playing stupid shots...

Sure, same thing.

Doesnt shot selection factor into his overall ability. From a bowling perspective, he is easy to get out.

If they do it or he does, the fall of his wicket puts a smile on the fielding sides face everytime.

;)

1000 fools agreeing doesn't make it right .....

He scored the fastest and the most... How exactely did that "cost" us the game?

Please either talk sense or really go back to the soccer sub forum or join chris and killa in the corner for people who like to talk about cricket although they really don't know anything about it;)

You are believing stories of 2-3 years ago.

Go look at his batting stats in this WC T20... He is under the top 5.

If you are looking for someone to blame look at Gibbs, Smith, Duminey and AB(although he can't score massive every game).

Never mind. You don't get it.
I made my point earlier in the thread, so did others. Have a read of that again if you need clarification.

Lol, Kallis should have gone big earlier? Why didnt duminey, why did gbbs fail, why did smith fail ?

Why did they not send in Albie when they sent in Duminey?

Yeah makes sense to blame the only guy that performed under pressure

Stick to soccer mate......

We lost and we deserve it, Afridi was man of the match and that says it all, he had the right spirit for the match whereas we went in playing at the same pace thinking we would win...that's wrong... Afridi had the right spirit, we did not go into that game with the winning spirit needed for a semi and we lost.

WEll done. That is a very good way of arguing. You would do well in the soccer section you seem to love so much with that attitude. ;)

Enjoy.

Exactly. Afridi asked to bat at number 3. Then he went after the bowling because that is his natural style of batting.

SA (probably) expected a routine batting line-up with Afridi at maybe 5 when it would be a bit too late to inflict too much damage to the bowling figures.

We failed to adapt and stuck with our usual bowling line-up, our usual batting line, combined with a fielding performance below our usual high standards.

Most people on here were more than happy to support the team when we were winning (with the possible exception of killa who did make his opinion known only like 50 times about Gibbs opening:p), and now when we lose some people are nit picking on who to blame.

True we were not really tested to our full potential, and true we were not in a pressure situation previously in the torney, unlike was evident last night. The weaknesses with our team were always there, but were not exploited by the opposition.

We lost - we can't change that now, not even by complaining about "taking singles while the run rate was climbing" a thousand times:p.

It is finished and gone; ancient history; move on;).

Yup we have a serious weakness in our t20 team called kallis and duminy i hope this gets addressed soon. I also hope they realize gibbs is at his best opening :D

Talking about a bit wide did anyone notice how slow kallis was between the wickets? we could hardly ever run 2.

Kallis was consistently at approx run a ball which was lower than the rate required so yes he did contribute to us being behind the run rate (anyway you want to look at it). It was only in the 15th over when Younis bowled Fawad Alam that Kallis himself went a bit ahead of the balls faced. Even after this he ended by scoring 7.11 runs to the over when we needed 7.5 runs to the over to begin with. By the way we also ended up scoring 7.1 runs to the over so he wasn't much better than the rest of the team combined and still below the required rate.

Every single person knew that SA would have had to score a lot more in the first 10 to be higher than the run rate as the last 10 was going to be pretty difficult. So we should have got a move on earlier. We are probably the only "top" team in the tournament that requires somebody like Kallis to bat through the innings at a run a ball and do his "job". Its only 20 overs and we bat down to 10 FFS.

I also really think we should have done more in the first six. Having seen the Pakistan innings you would have known it was going to be difficult in the middle and at the end of the innings. We should have had a target of 60 runs off the first six at least. We ended with 40. Kallis faced 22 of the 36 balls in the first six and scored 24 runs. No where near good enough. Why the hell didnt we start with Van der Merwe, Botha or even Boucher, even if all three of them got out it would have been fine because they weren't going to bat anyway. At least they would have tried to boost the run rate and put the pressure on Pakistan.

Dont get me wrong Kallis is a fine player but not ideally suited to this form of the game IMO. It could be argued that his slower run rate places pressure on his batting partners to score faster which contributes to them facing more pressure and getting out cheaply. Also Duminy seems to be getting the wrath here but his strike rate was 112.8 and Kallis was 118.51 at the end. Not much difference between the two, was there?

Well duminy was behind his balls before the last couple of overs as was kallis before he got out.

Anyone who knows anything about cricket could see between kallis and duminy the run rate blew out and we could never pull it back. We did need more in the first 6 of course we did and i still cannot believe they did not open with gibbs :D

I have said since the start that the important game is when we will see the slow kallis destroy our run rate because he opened, it had to be in the semi final of course :(

 I can't wait for the end of this WC, so I won't have to keep reading that line over and over and over and ...
