Official ICC World T20 thread

Shame alf i must say you get boring very fast, have you not noticed your insulting ways do not even touch sides? Yet you keep going as if i am going to freak out and get mad :D

No such luck buddy, if your going to continue with your ways though please try a different angle :p

Not an insult, just curious...

Yea they can drop the 50 over game i reckon, rather have pro 20 because in all honesty i do not think i could ever watch 50 over cricket and enjoy it now. T20 has killed 50 over cricket for me.
Aha, and there in lies the rub. 20/20 cricket was designed to bring the people back to the stadiums and rejuvenate interest in the sport in general, both 50 over and test cricket but all it's done is highlight how boring cricket is for most people. In effect 20/20 is killing off the other formats of cricket.

So the cure has now become the disease.

In a sense this is very sad for cricket, in particular test and 50 over.

I recall tickets prices for 20/20 being around the R300 mark for the recent OZ vs SA game while the ODI's ticket prices were around the R70 mark, indicative of the varying popularity of the 2 different formats..

While I enjoy the skiet and donor(sic) nature of 20/20 I can't help but think the guardians of the sport have neglected to consider the impact their "cure" will have on the game in general...

I agree with Chiskop, test cricket is the real mcoy..

I honestly don't care whether its T20, 50 over or test cricket, I just love watching cricket. (but then I have a high IQ ;))

My dream is to watch 24 hours of cricket which is possible if there're tests in NZ, SA or End, and WI. :D

Around Xmas time that should be almost do-able :D

Can not wait for SA vs Eng!

Sandman you are right but sport is about money hey, 20/20 brings in fans, brings in tons of money so you can understand why they will push it, while it may not be the purest form of cricket it is the most exciting form and a huge money spinner and brings in loads more fans due to the excitement.

Well I am getting sick of T20 really really quickly :(

I am happy about the ODI ICC Trophy being played and then after that I will be thanking the heavens for the tests against england...

T20 is fun but we are being chocked by it :(

100%... But I'm concerned about the longterm effects which could just mean a decline in attendance at 50 over and test cricket.

I think the question is if you have a shoestring budget which do you go watch? 20/20 at R300, 50 over at R70 or test at R40? If budget isn't a factor but entertainment factor is which do you go watch? And finally if it's being broadcast on tv which do you watch? The 20/20 games or the ashes being televised at the same time? A lot of people are going to be watching 20/20 and how does that impact on the other formats?

I dunno, just opening up a bit of a pandoras box me thinks with this quick fix cricket. Not disputing the fact that it is mightily entertaining but that might just be the problem.

50 over cricket made test cricket look pedantically boring and contrived and now 20/20 is doing the same to 50 over!!!! Dangerous times ahead for the sport me thinks...

Well look test cricket i will say and agree with the person who said cannot die because you have your hardcore fans who love it, 50 over cricket is more for the people who find 5 day game slightly boring so 50 over games are going to be hit hardest by this 20/20 version.

I actually thinkg 20/20 has been good for cricket not bad, it has made cricket well known to everyone i think and while the 20/20 people won't enjoy 50 over or 5 day at least cricket is gathering momentum and becoming a massive sport like soccer, well the short version anyhow.

Theres a charity match coming up.
England VS Shilpas IPL team...

One advantage of the shorter format is that players can carry on beyond the "normal" retirement age of +/- 35. Look at Jayasuryia - 40 and still playing:eek:

Pity the Aussies didn't follow suit and include Hayden and Gilchrist in their team:p.
