Sigh, at least they're on the bench but come on ...... Combrinck, Whiteley, Mostert and Redelinghuys should have started and would have put up a better show imo.

I would had started with Combrinck and Whiteley. Etsebeth and du Toit is where they should be and I would still rather had called up Snyman than Mostert. Though Mostert has played more rugby than Snyman, Snyman is a born to be talented lock in and out the set pieces.

Tim Bennets was Jones's backline golden boy, but he never made the 2015 RWC iirc... The Japanese loose trio is the experienced Shining Arcs loose trio so I can hope that this combination will liven up the game without Leitch. All in all, the Japanese team is not that weak as I had expected, still though they are really going to miss their 8 unavailable players. Good to see SA born Matsushima at the back, had good rotational games with the Rebels this year.

Scotland to take it not by too much, strong team. I will still support the Japanese, hoping to see Hammer time.

I'm hoping to see some more grit and determination from the boks at the weekend. You are not owed any results in rugby. Only when and if you play the better rugga on the day can you win.

AC has shown faith in his team. He clearly thinks they can do better. It has to be heartwarming to have a coach that believes in his players like our national head coach does. They really need to repay the faith that has been shown in them by beating these Irish well.

It has now become a matter of self respect.

And a matter of national importance if you asked me, but I get swept up in rugby and our rugby heritage probably a little too much.

Coetzee is playing his experience, the position is between Louw and Kriel. I am sure that Kriel will get his opportunity, maybe in this series or later this year,

The Rugby Championship (home fixtures)

20 August: South Africa v Argentina, Mbombela Stadium, Nelspruit
1 October: South Africa v Australia, Loftus Versfeld, Pretoria
8 October: South Africa v New Zealand, Growthpoint KINGS PARK, Durban

I'm not sure whether the England (November 12) and Wales (November 26) games are still on in the UK. The Asia Pacific rugby teams are also touring Europe in November...

I really hope you are right. If someone deserves to get a chance it is Jaco Kriel. In my opinion on current form he is way better than Louw.

Louw is not very well conditioned at the moment for international rugby. Did any of you see him speak at half time last weekend? He could barely muster a word without catching breath.

Think the Boks should take this one. They are often at their best when written off or with their backs to the wall and I can't recall when last they were in such a position (probably after their loss to Japan). Allied to that their record at Ellis Park and it should hopefully all gel. Boks by 13

Australia to attend England's meeting with referee Craig Joubert

Now Cheika plans to take advantage of World Rugby regulations that state a team are allowed to be present at the opposition's eve-of-match briefing with the official.

Cheika will join Friday's discussion between rival coach Eddie Jones and South African official Joubert in order to seek clarity on issues surrounding the match and express any concerns.

To date, the option of attending has always been declined by opponents, but Cheika is keen to ensure Australia are not out-flanked by their rivals in alerting the referee to areas of potential concern.

Joubert… Joubert… Joubert… please do not give in to the Australian crowd.

South African journalist pays enormous compliment to Irish team for Joost van der Westhuizen gesture

A South African writer and broadcaster has paid tribute to the Irish rugby team for coming out in force to attend a fundraising event for Motor Neurone sufferer Joost van der Westhuizen.

Writing for vodacomrugby.co.za, Dan Nicholl described how the entire Ireland touring party turned out for a fundraising night for his J9 Foundation in Montecasino.

Van der Westhuizen, confined to a wheelchair and unable to speak, is one of the greatest players to ever play the game and was central to the Springboks 1995 Rugby World Cup triumph.

For Nicholl, who MC-ed the event, the presence of Rory Best's side was amazing gesture given that it came just days after Ireland's first ever victory on South African soil and ahead of their trip to Eden Park tomorrow.

"On Tuesday night, just three days after that historic victory in Cape Town, Joost van der Westhuizen brought his tired, fragile self to Montecasino for a fundraising night for his J9 Foundation," Nicholl wrote.

"A robust riposte to the cruelty of motor neuron disease, Joost continues to defy the ravages of the condition that’s left him a physical shadow of the warrior we knew on the rugby field, and continues to raise both funds and awareness for the battle against MND.

Great gesture!

Well I'm not surprised. The coach is a Kiwi and they probably have the greatest humility over any other rugby nation. Imagine how arrogant the Aussies or England or a country like the USA would be if they only lost, what, 3 games in the last 4 years and boast a 90% winning record (or there about).
