Moyes has been completely outdone tactically by Martinez. Letting us push up and hold possession then hitting us on the counter; we are stretched, it's too easy. We have been totally flat and spread. I hope Moyes buys good players for his successor because this style of football is embarrassing and quite simply not going to work, this season or next. Rooney was crap today, should never have played. Started Kagawa on the left and like I said just left space behind him for Coleman to run into. Mata looked good in the middle, went to the right and disappeared, got shifted back to the middle and came alive again.

Our poor season has nothing to do with the squad, Ferguson said he thought he left it in good shape. Any squad that won the league by 11 points the season before is a good squad. We've added Mata, Januzaj has come out as a great prospect. I'm laying the blame squarely on Moyes shoulders. Martinez has revolutionized Evertons style of play and they look more dangerous now than at any time under Moyes. I don't think it is a coincidence that the two teams who have improved the most this season (Everton and Liverpool) both have managers who believe in a similar style of football, a modern style that has been proven to work for other teams. Moyes deserves credit for what he did at Everton but his style is more suited to not losing than to winning games. His techniques are from the stone age. Sport is a science now, if we really wanted to make a long term appointment we should have hired someone who understands that and who plays a brand of football according to that. Our injury crisis has nothing to do with bad luck, its bad training techniques and conditioning. I think the board and SAF have to admit they made a mistake and take steps to fix the problem before it is too late.

I guess it mirrors what Barkley said a few weeks ago about him only learning tactics with Roberto, they were never a priority with Moyes.
 
its the first time in history that Liverpool and Everton have done the double over UTD in the same season.

First season ever where we didn't take a single point off of a regional rival. I'd support him if it looked like he had an idea about where he was taking United but honestly the only clear direction is down the table.
 
Manchester United David Moyes, speaking to BBC Sport: "We had a lot the ball, passing, and controlled the majority of the game. But we didn't have a cutting edge and got done on the counter attack. We gave away two dreadful goals.

"I've no arguments with the penalty. But it was terrible mistake, because David De Gea would've just picked the ball up.

"We couldn't find the telling pass, or clever play in the final third that makes the difference. I thought we did well, were the better team at 2-0 down in the first half.

"We'll do everything we can to win the remaining four games. We are under way with what we are doing to improve next season and try to give ourselves a better chance to compete at the top end of the table."

Sick to ducking death of hearing him say that after every game. Sounds like a stuck record player.

And I hope Unites are under way to improve next season, by preparing to fire Moyes!!!
 
I guess the prevailing view was that Moyes was over-achieving at Everton, but subsequent events suggest the opposite. Maybe Everton fans endured many wasted seasons thinking their team was in good hands.

I'm just wondering when Ferguson will acknowledge his mistake in selecting him and fix it tbh.
I'm pretty sure there are still good managers out there who will still be willing to take on the Man U job.
 
United have too many players that want to do the same thing. Rooney was deployed as the striker yet he kept on dropping back, occupying Mata's space. Even Nani insisted on drifting inside. Kagawa too sat narrow. The result, 4 #10s and nobody to get in behind the defence. The biggest joke was that the rightback, Smalling, was often the only outlet available behind the defence. All of them want to play off a target man, none of them want to be the target man. This I doubt can be something coached, you are either a target man or you are not.

Because of this, if Moyes stays or a new manager comes in, the formation needs to be addressed. Playing multiple #10s together may be fine against lesser opponents, see the dismantling of Newcastle, but it is not going to work against better teams. They'll gladly let you keep the ball if you are not getting behind them. Kagawa needs to be sold, ideally used as a sweetener in a Reus deal, as he is the only realistically expendable #10, seeing as Rooney has just been re-signed and Mata is a new signing.

Kagawa simply cannot play wide against decent teams, this should now be common knowledge. He was shocking. Coleman had all the space in the world. Moyes should have reacted after 30-minutes and taken him off for Welbeck. Welbeck would've widened the pitch and has a high work rate, so he'd have sat with Coleman, or at least tried to. Mata should've come off at half-time in favour of Hernandez. Hernandez would have hit the defence. He and Welbeck would've done a better job of stretching the defence.

Blame also has to go to Carrick and Fletcher for United's poor attempts at goal stat line. How many times did they get the ball on the edge of the box with space? SHOOT! Do you think Scholes would've just sat there dithering on the ball? Lampard? Gerrard? NO! They'd have tried to test the bloody 'keeper. Force a save, maybe you get lucky and he coughs it up. Too cute.

The irony is Martinez beat United by playing like David Moyes. Sat back and allowed the ''better'' team all the possession, then caught them on the break.

Side note - 8 of Everton's 11 starters were Moyes' signings. His last signing for Everton was Stones. Everton's defence, which shuttered the United attack, were all Moyes' signings. Moyes can identify and nuture talent, quite clearly he can. Will he be given the chance to do the same at United or is he just managing out the last few games?

Ferguson has no power when it comes to these types of decisions. All he can do is offer his opinions, but executive power is in the hands of the Glazers.
 
I can't see how Moyes can turn this around. It is just hopeless. It seems he is obsessed with possession and his view is if the team don't win with majority possession then it's the players fault for not creating opportunities. He'll sell this idea to his bosses and buy a couple of $30 to $50 million players for next season and probably still will finish outside the top 4.

He can be, but he's also a journalist. They all talk crap at least 50% of the time.

Lack of games? Welbeck has played 31 times this season, including some of our more important fixtures. If this is indeed how he thinks, then he doesn't realise that he's not the finished article yet. Far from it.

It doesnt seem to be rubbish, Welbeck has been briefing the media with this and imo it stems from a fall out hes had with Moyes regarding him going out.
 
David Moyes edging closer to Manchester United exit door after abject display against former club Everton

The worst thing for David Moyes in watching his Manchester United players surrender at Goodison Park was that they would have known how much he wanted to win this game. Perhaps that is why they did so little to deliver for a manager who the majority of them clearly no longer have the stomach or desire to play for.
In a season that has produced more tipping points than a council dump, this one feels the most perilous for Moyes. Now it appears as though it is now a case of when, rather than if, his disastrous tenure comes to an end. For personal reasons, it meant everything to Moyes to return to Everton and emerge with his head held high, having silenced the boos, jeers and mocking chants that had greeted him from the moment he emerged from the team bus. Yet on a day when their manager was so desperate to succeed United’s players produced the most half-hearted and uninterested performance that has shamed the red shirts for 30 years.
It was one which is likely to prove a death knell for the Scot, with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward barely betraying his discomfort as the cameras focused on him in the directors’ box. As Moyes stood on the touchline, waving his arms like a blind man directing traffic, he resembled a parent chiding an unruly teenager for playing the music too loud upstairs. And the response from those on the pitch was akin to the adolescent shrugging his shoulders and turning the volume up to full blast before the door had even been closed.
Many of United’s senior players have harboured strong misgivings about Moyes’s capabilities for weeks now, doubts which were revealed in Telegraph Sport last month, but the former Everton manager is now losing the faith of those who the team’s future should be built around.
Revelations earlier in the day that England forward Danny Welbeck wants to leave United this summer due to the breakdown of his relationship with Moyes were not mere speculation, with the player’s advisers rejecting opportunities to dismiss the story. With Moyes disciplining Welbeck, Ashley Young and Tom Cleverley for a night out 10 days prior to this game – prescribing extra training for the three of them – it is little wonder that a group of internationals and title winners have lost patience with a man who is set to guide United to seventh position, their lowest finish since 1990.
The exasperation which now runs through the squad was evident on the pitch as Everton comfortably secured the victory which keeps their Champions League aspirations alive. Dwight Yorke, the United treble winner who was watching from the television studio, did little to hide his view of the disconnect between the players and the manager. “You expect players to be fresh and up for the game for the manager’s sake because they know how important it was for him,” Yorke said. “He has learnt the players he trusted in let him down badly.” On many occasions this season, Moyes has resisted the opportunity to criticise the players who have failed him. Following humiliating defeats against Olympiakos, Liverpool and Manchester City Moyes tiptoed around the issue, opting instead to shoulder responsibility and insist that everything would be better next season.
Within the bowels of Goodison Park after the game, the message was again the same. “I think everybody knows that we are on track to make changes and do some different things,” Moyes said. “We are rebuilding, we have got things we want to do. Today there were things that were not that good, but there were things that were good. We need to try and get rid of the bad things and do better with the things we should have done.” Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, sat alongside Yorke in the Sky studio, appeared startled after hearing Moyes talk of positives from this game, however.
“If David Moyes thinks Man United played well, I would worry for Man United,” Carragher said. United’s supporters are certainly growing tired of Moyes uttering the words “hope” and “try” following each disappointment this season and there is a danger that the collective support from the terraces will evaporate and develop a more militant edge over the final four, meaningless games of this campaign.
But results will ultimately decide Moyes’s fate and there may be a clue as to the levels of patience displayed by United’s owners, the Glazer family, from events at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, their NFL franchise, earlier this year. After sacking Tampa’s coach and general manager, Bryan Glazer insisted that time had run out. “The results over the past two years have not lived up to our standards,” Glazer said. “We believe the time has come to find a new direction.”
When asked after this defeat whether the board recognise his insistence that things will get better on his watch, Moyes shrugged his shoulders and smiled, but it was a nervous, uncomfortable smile. For all his good work behind the scenes in rebuilding scouting networks and player analysis, that kind of progress will count for nothing on the Stretford End.
It is all about success and trophies and, as United’s team bus drove past Stanley Park on its way towards the M62, the sight of Anfield on the horizon preparing for a title party, will have darkened the mood even more.

How has he been briefing the media? Openly telling them he wants to leave, on the record?
