Lol, how on earth can you can feel entitled to claim bragging rights when you picked a team to support depending on who was top of the league the year you got your dstv installed?

i wish you could read my post about liverpool guys supporting barca ....you just mentioned it in your reply that barca is class ...
Firstly, learn to read. I never claimed bragging rights. Secondly, when I did start supporting United, DSTV hadn't been launched yet. Interesting enough, DSTV was started in October 1995, when Blackburn were the Champions and Newcastle topped the table. So there goes your misguided rant.
I have no allegiance to an English team. Sure I love watching English footy, but I just don't understand how picking Man Utd at football, and Roger Federer at Tennis, and Crusaders at rugby, and the Patriots at grid iron etc etc etc, can give anyone any bragging rights and a short cut to sporting happiness if they are not from Manchester, Switzerland, Chch, Boston and so on.
Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with picking a team and shouting for them on the tv, especially in this day of wall to wall English football, but ripping off another bloke so condescendingly and rubbishing some great European sides of the past in the same breath is nothing short of bloody annoying. It just highlights how little you actually know about the game if you think any EC win is easy because you haven't come across there name in the 5 years you've been following the EPL.
And for the record, when I lived in London, I went to watch QPR most weekends. Chelsea was closer but as you might have guessed, glory hunters bug the crap out of me. Now, I suppose I'd prefer Man U because SAF is a compatriot (my team is Hearts btw, I was born and raised in Edinburgh) but still, that Liverpool side of the 80's was the best club side I have ever seen.

Yeah, you're probably right. I took that one the wrong way. Unreserved and sincere apologies.
Btw, I witnessed Hearts beating Bayern Munich in the UEFA cup quarter final. I also remember Dundee Utd beating Barcelona in the Nou Camp, both not so long ago as well.
Just saying.
Point is, big teams aren't always big teams, and wee teams are some times bigger than them. And some times, deservedly so.

Don't know if you guys saw after the game on Tuesday but did you see Ferdinand grab onto Pogba and congratulate him about the performance? And then today he starts bringing up and hyping the youth cup. He may not have the fitness he once had but he is a great ambassador for the team. Looks like he is trying to get the youth players to believe and stay in the United way.
Looks like Fryers is holding out on signing a new contract and hoping for a better deal. Hope he comes to his senses and stays with us.

The jury is still out for me
And he clearly doesnt know Stevie G or hasn't even bothered to read previous posts but came in with his self-righteous theory - Why shouldnt we be allowed to support or claim bragging rights to above mentioned sport entities and who is he to generalise or make assumptions.
Liverpool guys will like him alot cause their glory days were over before the television came out....

My mother was an Irish migrant worker, that worked as the tea lady at Highbury. During the 1975/1976 season she had a 5-some involving Pat Rice, Frank Stapleton, Pat Jennings and David O’Leary. She fell pregnant and I was born in the clock end stand during the home game against Queens Park Rangers. The team won 3-2 that day. Not knowing who the father was my mother abandoned me in the stands and I was found by newly appointed manager Terry Neill. I was raised at the club by the staff and players.
Since my arrival the club had a minor turn around after ending 17th in the league during 1976. I had become a sort of mascot and the players used to pat my head before running on the field.
My earliest memory of football was arsenal reaching the FA Cup Final in 1979 against United. They went 2-0 up only for United to score twice and level the match. With seconds of injury time left and extra time almost a certainty, Arsenal won a corner. Graham Rix ran past the dugout and kissed my forehead as I was sitting next to Terry. He picked up the ball and took the corner. He found Alan Sunderland who headed in to take the game.
When George took over I started going to school. I remember George doing my homework while I worked out strategies for him. During those years George and I won the League twice and put 1 FA Cup, 2 League Cups and a UEFA Cup Winners Cup in the Cabinet. My school work suffered a bit though.
In 1995 when Wenger took over I came to South Africa to study. Anyway, that in a nutshell is why I support The Arsenal.

Well it seems like he is new to this subforum give him a break. He has also been to far more English football games than all of us combined probably. As for his generalizations you can't really blame him.
I like him because he talks sense, no matter who you support.
