No guarantee of first team football. ... he is wrong side of 30 and they might as well make something before he walks away on a free !!!

Our club bank balance after servicing our debt and paying all operating costs (including the purchases of Young, De Gea and Jones) was 50+ million

To say we can't compete with the likes of city and psg is fair.
But to say we can't afford anyone upwards of 20 is absurd.
The players you listed were all in the 17m - 20m bracket, this is where united have always speed with the odd signing off around 30m when they feel the need; Berba, Rooney, Ferdinand, Verona being examples.
United have never spent over extravagantly, so them not doing that now is not a sign of them crumbling financially, other things maybe but the pattern inn signings haven't changed much IMO.
Bout to long ago the club record was broken while having the strain of debt and interest repayments.

Ferguson is the one deciding, if he felt he needed a 60m player he could have afforded it (instead of 3 20m players) but that's not the way he spends money.

Edit: just to be clear I'm agreeing with you dbecks.

united just needs a very good midfielder who can attack and hold

i still rate sneijder as the one ....our youngsters are filling they positions very nicely

scholes cant last forever and a sneijder or mario gotze will do well ....

Yes I know :) and I agree with your additions

They so desperately want to believe that we on the down in whatever way they can falsify - Our league position countered the "decline in quality" argument so they go back to the "Financial" :wtf:

United have broken the British transfer record on a number of occasions. Anyone who thinks the Glazer regime's pillaging of United's finances hasn't affected our transfer policy is living in a dream world.

We definitely need some additions to the mid and we had a decline in quality, the thing Ferguson does well is doing well for a team in transition. Without spending hundreds of millions mind you. When he retired it will be another story though.

I ****ing hate the Spanish  Just breathe on them and they go flying!

What gets to me more than the going down easy is the play acting!
They get the foul but have to lay around for a few minutes for dramatic effect.
Reminds me of the time Dani Alves went off on a stretcher and came jogging back on second later, can't have much self respect doing that.

No outcome on the game though Athletic have been the better side by far.

Anyone wanna bet how much Athletic Bilbao paid that ref? Anyway was still a horrible performance. Fergie messed up with his team selection yet again :/

Gotta give it to the Spanish, experts at diving.

Guess we can just focus on title no. 20 then!

Sorry but this is just sour grapes in the extreme. We were well and truly beaten in both games and I can't think of a single contentious decision that went against us. I also thought Athletic's players were good sports so I'm not sure what diving and play-acting you saw.

Get your eyes checked. Athletic player falling over his own two feet. Cleverley barely nudging a guy in the back yet he hits the deck like someone ran into him. It's the Spanish way.

But yes United were k@k. Bilbao played well and could've scored 5 goals easily.

Bilbao were by far the better team. We played too negatively and it cost us, we also seemed to lack passion and the players just seemed to give up.

That said, there was a lot of diving and play-acting by Bilbao but its more a Spanish thing I think. Don't get me wrong, they 100% deserved the victory but the diving was pathetic.

After every touch they had to roll around for at least 30secs.
Football wise they outplayed united though.
Don't see how pointing out something that happened is sour grapes while still admitting being outplayed.
They fully deserve to be in the next round, over two legs united were actually taught a lesson.

excuses much ?

For a team that is lagging well behind Madrid and Barca, Utd should have beaten them.

Guess the Europa is much harder to win than what Fergie and fellow Mancs thought....

Its a European competition FFS, thou 2nd tier, Fergie should have given the opposition more respect and tactically he fscked up.

if you had once chance at it you would give it 200% ..united sat back and took it easy ...for this teams this might be they only chance of winnning something in a long time

i think united could have done better but that llorente goal was beautiful dammit

That was fun.

Facing a talented technically proficient team prepared to play this team is exposed badly as nothing more than mediocre
