I think Fergie had us all fooled when he said he wanted to win Europa.

Not sure if getting to top of the log on the weekend influenced anything, but you dont play five MF's when you need 2 goals and leave all other attacking (goal worthy) players on the bench. To me it seemed as if this was a training exercise and if we won then bonus it is - all focus seemed to have shifted to the league game.

I am dissappointed because we should be able to cope with both competitions or atleast be honest from the get go and play the youngsters.

We were outplayed but I dont think we did ourselves any favours with the team selection and formation.

Ah well, that ends a horrible season in Europe

methinks since being dumped out of the CL SAF said screw Europa it screws with our season playing on a thursday and expected to play on saturday/sunday

For a team that is lagging well behind Madrid and Barca, Utd should have beaten them.

Guess the Europa is much harder to win than what Fergie and fellow Mancs thought....



Its a European competition FFS, thou 2nd tier, Fergie should have given the opposition more respect and tactically he fscked up.

Who was making excuses?

Barca and Real Madrid cannot be used as the yard stick because currently United and the rest of the EPL are lagging well behind those two as well.
Ferguson's selection and tactics suggested he did not take it as serious as he said he would, even so United were well beaten over two legs.

People seem to forget that United are in transition at the moment.
On top of that our best defender and captain is out for the season.

I'm not saying this to excuse anything but united have fought strongly on all fronts for about 5 season now, bagging a couple of Carling cups, 4 premier league titles, 3 finals in Europe winning one, losing the other two to an insanely talented barca side. Making it to the later stages of the FA cup fairly often.

Now I guess some people expect this to continue because it has been such a regular occurrence.
But the squad is being refreshed and are not doing too bad in the league which is bread and butter for the team. If they walk away with the premier league not only will it be a highly successful season, it will be a rather massive achievement as well.

Rival fans tend to talk about their team being in a transition, as a reason for them not doing well but this doesn't seem to be applied to united.

Remember when united got rid of Beckham and were phasing out Keane, the team got knocked out in the group stages as well, the team was poor but after a few seasons they bounced back. So this transition doesn't last ages because Ferguson does it so well.
 
I got a question on the exits of the Manchester clubs from Europe.

Do you guys think that the EPL is getting tougher and making the guys more tired, therefore in Europe they not performing as theyd like to or is the teams in the EPL just weaker compared to the other league. I mean the two top clubs of the EPL got kicked out by a so called weaker team in there respective leagues.

Only Chelsea left in Europe and the main reason behind that is, they had to prove they are still willing to fight for something this season.
 
La Liga is a much more skillful and technical league.

The EPL sucks without foreigners.


England not being able to compete and win any major trophies in the last 50+ years is proof of that.

Man Utd got beating by a team 5th in La Liga, and Man City by a team 4th in the Seria A, the whole English league is the best thing is becoming a load of hogwash.

Not weaker, per se, but certainly in transition. City are new to European football, they can be forgiven for going out. Chelsea were on a bad, bad run this season compared to most, with an aging team. Arsenal lost key players and had to bed in players in an important part of the pitch for them, as well as the usual injuries.

United are both in a transitional period and have been decimated by continuous injuries. Don't get me wrong, I don't think that if we had all our players we would have won the Champions League, but we never had a squad to compete on so many fronts, which is why we dropped out of them one by one.

I think some people don't understand that domination doesn't last forever.
TheEPL while only having teams win the CL twice recently regularly dominated the latter stages of the competition.
I think it was 5 seasons in a row that had premier league representatives in the final. They regularly had all for teams in the quarter finals and on more than one occasion had 3 teams in the semi's.
The balance of power shifts though as teams need to transition.

There is no one league dominating the CL at the moment, I think it is barca dominating more than la liga.
 
We're still not playing all that well, but I'm happy so far.

Evans and Carrick ftw! What a goal by Tony! MoM for me so far.

Yeah Valencia was good as always. Good to see Pogba getting regular playing time. Disappointed Hernandez didn't get his hat-trick but 2 goals are good for his confidence.

Glad to see the pressure doesn't appear to be getting to them, while City might be showing some cracks :D

has pressure ever got to this united side ...for last few seasons i worry if united start of well ...i prefer them to lose in the beginning and then boom start the chase
