Moyes saying United needed Rooney incase RVP gets injured unsettled the player. Blaming it on Chelsea or anything Mourinho said is a bit silly.

Telling Rooney he is a squad player did the trick all on it's own.

Im not blaming Mourinho solely for Rooney wanting to leave, he's just adding fuel to the fire and as you have just said, a manger speaking public can have a very real effect on a player.

Telling Rooney he is a squad player did the trick all on it's own.

All on its own? So Rooney wasn't unsettled before Moyes said that? There are loads of factors in this Rooney saga, half of which we are not even privy to.

Ok maybe not all on it's own. Being used as a squad player started it, while the new manager confirming it compounded the issue.

Mourinho's comments came after the player was already unsettled.

Not to mention that Moyes stated we are short in MF and Rooney being deployed their last season

To be honest i think this all started way back in 2010 when Rooney initially handed in a transfer request, Ferguson never forgave him for that. Then when it came to renegotiating a new contract this last season, United wanted to reduce his wages and he was then dropped from the Madrid game. There is clearly a lot of bad blood between United and Rooney, however i still feel he wont go to another English club, i could be very wrong here though.

I highly doubt he will. United know all to well that it could come back to haunt them, after signing RvP. Everyone said he was a one season wonder, he'll get injured etc. Instead he leads the league in scoring and powers us to the title. United won't want Rooney doing the same thing to them.

Except Moyes never said that. He said that if RvP gets injured, we have Rooney to play in that role, while if he isn't injured, he'll play where he normally does, behind the #9.

I don't think the part about the wages is true.

Since my post I read another article which put Moyes comments in better context. Anyway I stand by my opinion that whatevers happing behind the scenes at United has much more to do with the player being unsettleld than what Mouriho has to say in his interviews.

Absolutely agree

Yeah, I agree. Any public statements are practically nothing, if there's real unsettling happening, it's not going to be in public.

Yeah I've said as much as well, though it'll be from both camps. Rooney doesn't have the best advisors, and agents will always agitate for a move since that brings in agent fees which are extremely lucrative.

Why?

Of course the stuff thats going on at United is the main reason. Im just saying what Mourinho has to say about Rooney can have an effect, even if its a small one. The same kind of effect that it might have on Chelsea if United leak to the press that Chelsea want to swap Mata or Luiz. As far as im concerned Mourinho has been playing mind games during the whole saga, United just possibly played some of their own.

Fair enough.

Daily mail isnt the most reputable i know, telegraph is and they mention why United "might" want to offer him less. Form, the fact that hes not as important to the team anymore because of Rvp etc.

So, pretty much implausible.
