He must be a closet Chelsea/Arsenal fan because he was constantly finishing above Liverpool during his time at Everton.

Yeah he made a couple of mistakes in his time :D My Liverpool theory is rock solid though. It will be in his autobiography later this year.

We'll come good. As highlighted earlier, SAF left Moyes a bit of an crumbling squad. Moyes' should have kept the backroom staff around, but I understand why he did what he did.

Sounds a bit like wishful thinking, atm im not seeing anything to suggest that we will come good. Of course it can change with transfers etc, but as things stand its quite bleak.

Sure the squad isnt the greatest but its not 7th place material. At the beginning of the season almost everyone knew we needed to invest in about 3 players, which wasn't done by Moyes/United for whatever reason. Either way, this squad on paper should be top 4.

I agree, I just think we will do better.

I don't know about that. thestaggy had a run down of our squad earlier that's quite accurate. We have an aging squad that needs to be overhauled. Only SAF being brilliant and knowing United in and out made us Champions last season.

Where is thestaggys post, i must have missed it? In my mind Evra and Ferdinand are the only ones that featured regularly last season and were good, who are now bad this season and probably need a replacement based on age.

Thanks, ok so on the defense situation its the same as last season bar Ferdinand and Evra which i mentioned. You would expect improvements from Smalling/Jones.

CM was an issue last season, we knew this and the purchase of Fellaini was unlikely to change it.

Wide players exactly the same as last season in terms of performances they were pretty average, with the additions of Januzaj and Zaha. Why Zaha hasnt been given a chance who knows.

Forwards, i would say that Rooney and Welbeck have improved from last season. Rvp has been injured which is obviously a big miss, Hernandez has been miss used which i think is contributing to his poor form.

So to sum it up besides Ferdinand and Evra the squad is similar in terms in ageing and developing. Moyes should be definitely be getting more out of them than he currently is.

Vidic is also showing signs that he is no longer the defender that he was, which is understandable considering the injuries he has had and age catching up with him. Three quarters of your preferred defence are over the age of 30, which is a concern.

Other than Rooney, all of your key players are over 30 (the abovementioned, Carrick, RvP) whilst the younger players are either not good / consistent enough (Cleverly, Young, Nani, Valencia) or have not been groomed effectively (specifically Jones and Smalling).

Januzaj and Welbeck (for all his criticism, by myself included) do exhibit promise. Would be great to see Zaha given a run- he surely cannot do worse than the others currently are.

And this a result of Fergie ignoring weaknesses in the squad for too long, with his trasfer policy over the final few years of his tenure. Moyes is the unfortunate victim of this (not that it is the only aspect contributing to the situation, of course).

Do you guys think we will get Koke or Costa from Athletico seems like we linked with everyone hope we get a midfielder a proper one

Vidic is no different from last season, he didnt offer us something last season that hes not offering us this season.

As i repeat again, no difference to last season.

Agreed, something Moyes needs to take criticism for.

Of course, im not denying the squad doesnt have weakness. Im just saying this years weaknesses are more or less the same as last years weaknesses when we won the league. Clearly this squad is better than 7th and should be in the top 4.

That is my point- it has been there for a while without Fergie sufficiently addressing it.

Yip.

Yes, but your rivals squads are not the same, and your manager is not the same. Fergie gone is a huge, huge difference which shows that the squad actually is seventh position material at the moment. The league table doesn't lie, fortunately.

I suppose the situation has been exacerbated by the fact that so many teams have improved, in addition to United regressing. Things would have been a lot different had the other teams not pulled their socks up.

Right if its exactly the same as last season but we have gone from comfortable winners to 7th place, clearly squad quality isnt our main issue.

Yes, but your rivals squads are not the same,

Nah rivals only look better because United are not there, Evra made a comment i agree with. Its the most open league for a very long time because United are not winning.

Manager is the main thing, which shows the squad is ok if you've got the right man. League table can lie with regards to squad quality. I was reading about Barcelona under Rijkaard where by the end of the season they ended up with 60 odd points, talk of the time was about the quality of the squad. Pep took over the next season and with the same core of players, well you know the rest. Im not trying to make comparisons between this United side and that Barcelona side, im just trying to say that the manager can make a huge difference in the perceived quality of a squad.

Fergie hasnt done Moyes any favours in terms of the state of the squad. I feel Moyes should be given the funds to overhaul the squad come end of season 100M+ for the 6-7 players united need and time to make them gel.
