Yes, but beware - PS3 will only recognise a drive that's been formatted FAT32, and I don't think you will be able to format a drive that big on FAT32.

What I did was to get a 500Gb and use that as a permanent multimedia repository for my PS3. Formatting a 500Gb with FAT32 is not too bad, IIRC I ended up with 450Gb useable space.
 
Yeah heard about that issue that I was really not happy about... have a 250GB FAT32 one I suppose I can use... I have seen tools to format 1TB ones into FAT32 but not sure I want to attempt that...
 
Well I suppose the new one has a 120GB drive, plus a 250GB drive is fine for now... I am looking at getting a 1.5TB drive, then maybe I can try and convert the 1TB one to FAT32... for now I just want to get the ps3 already, going to go check out reggies after work :D

You planning on picking up any games as well? May i suggest Uncharted to start with, since it's on Platinum and should be pretty cheap, just to get you started. ;)
 
Thanks I will look at that, for now it will just have to be the ps3 :) One thing at a time... Just bought the LCD TV last month so my poor bank account :(

I have a ps2 too that I'm not going to get rid of as I love my ps2 games.. and ofcourse have a few blu-ray's I want to get now :)
 
What models are your ps3 slims? Mine's the CECH-2004A, bought it today at reggies, all seems 100%, but also didn't get an english manual, and if you google it it doesnt come up with any english websites, on the CECH-2000A is in english... that's strange! why would some places sell a different model to other stores? I cant even find out if one is a later one?
 
Also any tips on the best way to rip my dvd's onto an external harddrive to pay it in the best quality on a Full HD lcd please let me know... i have them as VOB's as they are the best quality to me and now they wont recognise them on the ps3 as a single movie :( i have to play each vob file seperately!

You could just enable the setting on the PS3 that allows it to play video's continuously. So all you do is start the movie and it will automatically got to the next vob file.

Gosh that would be perfect, pleeeaaase tell me where that is cause I dont seem to see a setting like that. It would save me ALOT of hassle and conversion of files. Downloaded the new firmware last night, WOW it used more than a quarter of my GIG!

Under <video settings> enable <sequential playback>
 
Wondering the same thing. What good PS3 exclusives can I buy?

I 've gotten my hands on a used 60GB PS3 with a dead blu-ray lens, so might as well get some decent PS3 games.

Advice?
