Official PS3 Discussion/News Thread - No bashing!!

Haha, I hope not :p

Are you looking at The box near Cavendish?

the corect answer is:
Only when absolutely needed!

No, it is a place by me (Bloubergstrand) called The Hub.
I had a look yesterday and they have about 7 screens, all HD and all set up with internet connections the lot.
They only have 360's so...was wondering if some PS3 owners that are in CPT like yourself for instance is willing to bring their console to the Meet?

If you have any questions you can PM me...I can understand that your...errr...fear...lol...you wont be lynched...promise.
It would be quite cool to have a PS3 or two there.
I can then check LBP out and you can check Fable 2 out.

Gamers were astounded when it was announced that God of War III would make an appearance at this year’s VGA. However, the excitement were short live when gamers around the world were unsure whether the trailer would comprise of CG or gameplay footage. Well, It’s time to put that concern to rest. Geoff Keighley have confirmed on his personal blog that the trailer being shown at this year’s VGA would indeed comprise of gameplay footage.

"Kratos soon arrives on the PlayStation 3 and only the VGAs will bring you the first-ever glimpse at this game. And let me put all you skeptics to rest right now. I’m happy to confirm you’ll be seeing real-time gameplay footage."

I hope this means the PS3 price will not increase here :)

Sony UK price increases won't affect PS3

Let's face it, not everyone can afford a PlayStation 3 from the get-go and there are some of us out there still saving up to pick up our black beauty. So when Sony announced that in 2009 some of their products would receive price increases, a lot of potential owners were concerned as to whether they would be able to still afford the console come that time. Fortunately for those consumers out there, Sony has laid to rest any rumor involving a PlayStation 3 price increase.

"Sony UK can confirm that in the past 48 hours it has communicated to its trade channel that due to adverse changes in the Yen/Euro & Euro/Pound exchange rate over the last six months, and with this uncertainty set to continue into 2009, Sony will increase the trade price of a number of products over the coming months," said a representative.

"The precise level of price increases has not yet been agreed, but it is likely that the vast majority of products affected will see increases of significantly less than 33%. As these testing trading conditions continue, Sony does not believe that it will be alone in taking this form of action."

Considering the economics of it all, this could have hurt sales tremendously, but instead, future PlayStation 3 owners can play beyond without the worry of a price hike.

Rumour Alert :D

Hmm. Here's something interesting. PlayStation Home is currently in closed beta right? The start of the open beta hasn't been given an exact date yet aside from a vague "by Christmas" target, but it looks like we could be seeing it in less than two weeks' time.

We spotted this interesting little tidbit in a recent Home feature published on the Times Online UK website (emphasis ours):

To try Home, which is slated for release in the next 10 days, players must download a piece of free software from Sony’s PlayStation store onto their own PS3.

Does the Times Online know something about Home that we don't? Maybe, maybe not. take it with a grain of salt guys. As for us, we'll keep our eyes peeled for any further developments in the coming days.

Thanks to Kyle Thompson (GameBox 47) for the tip!

So Home could land on the 17th. I must say i'm quite interested to see how it all plays out. It was never something i really looked forward to, but now that it's almost here, i do have some anticipation building. For anyone who was in the beta, how big was the initial DL?

I'm in the beta and the DL was 77mb but you download have to download Home square(55mb) and the bowling ally(20mb) etc. as you go along :(

Oh, that's not too bad, i was expecting it to be close to a gig.

Something to get excited about :D

God of War 3 Details

I was recently sent a pretty detailed run down of what to expect from God of War 3... This is an actual build of the game and not the trailer we're all set to see at the VGA's. I am told that it will only be a very short glimpse of what the game is going to offer and will probably be further edited down to about 20 seconds if that. He thinks it could be so edited that if you blink you might miss it... 10 seconds, even.

Sadly, I'm not able to go into as much detail here. It sucks, I know. But, at the request of the man in question and in hopes of building a better relationship with him in the future I will honor that request.

What I can talk about is this:

Graphically it is going to set a new standard. Easily eclipsing the detail in Gears of War 2 and uncharted... God of War 3 is set to offer up the most cinematic experiences ever! He was over the moon about how good it looked... he said there is nothing that comes remotely close. "The detail is crafted with highest of care and the animations sell the experience like nothing you've ever seen" .

He was told that the game will be 1080P and 60FPS... He then said it was obvious the footage he seen wasn't, though. So, if they're shooting for 1080P and 60fps and haven't hit it yet that's a good thing... since the game already looks better than anything out there. This is a win for the gamers.

Kratos doesn't look like the only playable in the game. Apparently their might be someone along for the ride... His brother perhaps???

Gameplay remains somewhat the same but with tweaks that begged to be put in from the beginning. The camera is now placed much closer and everything is bigger and only on "certain" instances does the camera pan way out on you. He explained to me there are 3 new mechanics to the gameplay engine that drastically alter it for different players.

There will be an online mode... Gladiator mode and co-op are two he touched upon.

The area he has seen shows Kratos battling hordes of rotting corpses in a highly detailed cemetery. There is a a sea supplying eerie fog as the backdrop, along with dead trees and headstones. The sky has a reddish hue to it but real time storm clouds act as a blanket of night for the setting.

He said the zombies realistically came up through the ground, disruptting the dirt and clawed their way into battle. He said the detail and quality of work represented in this was something he'd never seen in a video game before. After Kratos had ripped through the onslaught of undead he comes to a tomb and a battle rages on between he and a reaper-like boss battle.

Described as one of the most cinematic fights in gaming history, it came together by actual fighting, timed button presses but also another brand new mechanic he didn't elaborate on further.
He said the there will be100% be a playable demo for the PSN in the coming months ahead. Maybe sooner than later???

He ended it by saying the trailer we see at the VGA's isn't going to be anything to get too excited about and will end up showcasing very little of the game. And finally, while highly impressed with how the game looks and seems to play, he said he was hoping to have seen more than the cemetery in wish he feels probably starts the game off or finds its mark shortly afterwards. He said the fighting and sheer amount of enemies on screen is unheard of and was epic enough to open up the game, but he wouldn't be surprised if they didn't toss in something even bigger than what he seen.

I do have a bit more detailed stuff to go off of here but will wait for his word on things... He is said to have snapped a few pics and how great would it be if they landed somewhere in here? I'll be back later to update.

Woo-hooo! Sounds fantastic. Now if only they'll pen a definite release date to it...I'm thinking Christmas 09.

holy smokes! I can't wait for this game. Kratos is the biggest and most badass protagonist created.

I got my PS3 on launch day, and for 3-4 months i remember moaning about the small games library, but now things are the opposite, I'm moaning because there is and going to be to many great games coming out and that are already out, and my wallet cant keep up anymore.

I suppose its better to moan about too much, then to moan about to little.

thanks for that glimpse at GoW3!! thats one to definately save up for.

on another note, i switched my ps3 on this morn to play some tunes and when i signed in, there was an update waitin. anyone have any details??

@I_F as far as i know V2.53 is the latest and that was out +- a week and a half ago.
I hope its not a new one just yet, unless it has to do with Home.

Hi everyone, in the next PS3 firmware update (v2.53), coming soon, we’re improving the way the Flash Player works with the internet browser. In addition to being able to access more sites using Flash, you’ll be able to enjoy:
Full-screen mode playability
Live movie (using RTMP format) playability
Now it’s going to be even easier to enjoy web content on your PS3, in full-screen!
