Official Real Madrid Supporters' Thread

When you asked "like who?" you were looking for examples weren't you? So I gave you?

I said Europa League which is the competition where "the rest" of the leagues' teams come up against each other. La Liga non-elite teams' performances there against English and other leagues' teams prove there's nothing wrong with the league's levels. You said La Liga lags behind the EPL and I'm demonstrating how that is nonsense. So where's the false statement on my part? Atletico-Chelsea was yet another Spanish team that is not Barca or Madrid beating a Premier League elite team so thanks for bringing that up.

To avoid cherry-picking we could simply bring up a summary of all head to head clashes between the two leagues in recent years or have a look at UEFA Coefficients. You said La Liga lags behind the premier league so it is therefore important to bring up some head to head results. You brought up the comparison of the two competitions. If the rest of the league's teams were not up to scratch English teams would dominate them in Europa league competition as you claim they lag behind compared to the EPL's lower rung, but the opposite has happened when they met head to head...like an Athletic Bilbao defeating Manchester United home and away. The big scores you see like the Granada one are more an indication of Barca and Madrid's superiority than a reflection of the weakness of the other teams or the league in general.

I said La Liga lags behind the likes of the Premier League in terms of competitiveness across the league. Simple. Have a look at the discussion I had with Unhappy over this.

Interesting game. Thought Real played well but didn't do enough with possession. Keeper for Athletico in the first half was great.

Thought Modric was a little lackluster and Kroos had no impact on the game.

On to the 2nd leg and going for a Real win.

Barely watched the 1st half, exchange congestion meant streaming from SS on ADSL was a horrendous. Had to watch the rest of the game on my phone using Cell C's 3G. It was a lot better than I expected, got HD quality. Luckily I get a decent data allowance and I have data from the previous month.

Thought we played well in the 1st half (the 20-odd min I got to watch). We were a bit wasteful in front of goal and I was really disappointed we did't get 1 in, especially if you consider the sheer number of chances we had. Their goalie was on point though.

Athletico had Ronaldo in check tonight, he was barely a threat. It's something they have mastered in recent times. Was really hoping for an away goal. Don't want to have to score 2 if Athletico manage to scrape a goal. Was surprised to see James in the starting line up ahead of Isco. Love James (and think he has much more quality than Isco) but I think Isco just offers more defensively. Hope Isco starts next week.

Next Wed will be interesting. I really do believe we have what it takes to progress. Was a bit worried before the game, mostly because of our record against them, but the showing tonight has eased my nerves.

Hope PSG bang Barca tomorrow, and also that my exchange isn't congested so I can watch the game in peace.

Glad I didn't watch the game- didn't sound like one for the neutrals. Second leg should offer more, the Bernabeu will force a more expansive game from both teams.

apparently a lot of elbows and bitch slapping happened

Ronaldo becomes the first player in the history of Spanish football to score 50 goals for 5 seasons in a row.

So no Modric, no Benzema, no Bale and no Marcelo tonight. We are royally screwed :(

I'm hoping we go 4-2-3-1:

Carvajal, Varane, Ramos, Coentrao

Kroos, Illara

Jese, James, Isco

Ronaldo

This way we have enough cover defensively, and we aren't exposed on a flank because Ronaldo doesn't wanna track back. It also provides us with enough creativity and pace up front.

We need to score at least 2 tonight as I believe Athletico will put 1 in the back of our net, if not more. We're playing at home so I hope that 12th man makes a difference tonight.

I pray to the Telkom Gods that my exchange isn't congested so that I can stream the game in peace.

Well deserved victory. We played better than Athletico did, even with our limited squad. Ramos is midfield was superb. Very bold choice from Ancelotti, did not expect that at all.

The semi's are going to be really tough. Bayern, Barca and Juve are all formidable opponents.

Personally I hope we draw Bayern. I just think they are the weakest of the 3. Barca are in immense form and Juve have the best defense of the 4, hands down.

What match ups would you guys like to see for the semi's?

Hala Madrid

Nice to see Hernandez on the score sheet again.
