Ye, on 2.3.6. Custom ROM though. I never stick to stock. Custom ROMs are always tweaked to perfection with extra goodies thrown in.
My Note was rooted within 2 hours of opening the box.

Whoop whoop, got my note today, wouldn't mind rooting and putting a stock Android ROM on it. Anyone have any suggestions?

I updated mine to 2.3.6 using Kies and rooted, and I don't have any complaints so far so I'm staying stock for now.

You download Kies from the Samsung site and install it on your PC and launch it. Make sure that USB debugging is off on your phone and plug it into your PC. Kies will recognize your phone and will search for an update. After finding 2.3.6 it will download it and update your phone.

So... seems that Kies doesn't like my note. Evidently this is a problem across the interwebs... Gonna keep trying to see if there is a work around, but it is super frustrating.

Is USB debugging off? Also, make sure to plug the USB cable into one of the USB ports that is directly on the motherboard, seems weird but this solved issues I had with other devices.

Made sure of the USB debugging and also tried a different USB port / different PC, no luck :( Might end up just waiting for OTA updates to be pushed to the device or alternatively rooting.
 
It is oddly difficult getting Kies to work. Try restarting your pc after diagnosing the pc connection (the option that reinstalls drivers). After the restart, start Kies and then plug your phone in.

Nope... I can't believe that Samsung release rubbish software like this. Clearly its got a bit of a shocker of a reputation. Pity, the phone is freaking awesome.
 
I get that issue aswell sometimes, try turning off your phone and remove the battery for like 30 seconds, reinsert and try again :)
That always works for me

What charger are you using oronte? Because if you use your pc to charge over usb the max current is like 0.5 amps where as the supplied charger is a 1 amp unit, my phone charges from fully drained to 100% in 2 hours :)

**** I dunno!? Its bust downloading at the moment, taking for freaking ever... (so far been about 30 minutes and only on 17% on a 1mb line). Will post as soon as its finished.
 
It appears to be 11.12.19.01? Does that sound right? (as an aside, cant wait for ICS, gonna be amazing on this device)

I'm using the charger from my Galaxy S, I assume you're using the included charger and data cable? I'll try that when I get home next week.
