Companies normally use proxy servers to control and secure Internet. It gives options like added security nd url filtering, even monitoring if they setup authentication.

If you ever work for a big company and cannot go to Facebook, the proxy is normally what you would blame.
 
Im usually on the road, and hardly ever use the laptop, i rather use the nexus 7. i mainly use it for emails, web browsing, edit the odd spreadsheet or word document. i am wondering if it would be a good idea to merge my cellphone and tablet, and get a note 2, would this be practical?

Have you ever wanted to use a certain keyboard for normal use, and a different one for the S-Pen! This will ease your life.
- When the service is running, the pen's position is detected and the keyboard is switched to the learned or pre-defined one (depending on the mode).
- The service runs quietly and efficiently. No popups, no interventions.
- Support for starting on boot
- Service supports two modes:

Learning mode: Tries to detect the keyboard you use in each pen position, stores the detected keyboard, and uses it the next time you take your pen off, or return it to its place.
Fixed Mode: The service only uses the keyboards you chose inside the application, even if you use another keyboard for a short time, when the pen's position, the keyboard is reverted back to the ones you chose.

I was running a custom rom on my note but I want to be able to backup to my pc using Kies and also be able to sync music with mediamonkey.

So I have revert to stock firmware 4.0.4 which is not the jellybean that I am used to.

Is there a way to use an official jellybean rom like the one on sammobile and then change the csc to my country?

OR is there a way to get custom roms to play nicely with the pc and backing up and syncing of music?

There is an unofficial leak of jellbean on sammobile, but its the closest thing you will get until its officially released by sammy, and even that leak registers as a custom rom on the note, not sure if it works with Kies, have no need to use that rubbish. Google and Sammy OTA backup most of my stuff and Titanium backs up all the apps.

Windows explorer, or I just download them strat to the phone, alternatively you can use syncme which syncs samba and windows shares.
But generally I just download everything to my phone directly, seldom sync or transfer anything over.

Also use Windows Explorer, but if you need to sync, Dropbox is excellent (you just have to point your music player to the right folder if it doesn't pick up all music by default). You just need to favourite the relevant folders in the Dropbox app so that they download to the phone.
 
So it's started, Samsung started pushing 4.1.2 to the international Note(N7000) today. Reports that Germany(DBT) is up for download, as well as Hong Kong... So, all those with German firmware should be getting download notifications soon... I would expect our useless networks to wake up around May-June side...?

I just caution you, its reasonably slow. It unfortunately does not use local wifi so it runs via your internet, what would work better is DroidVNC, but last I checked it still needed some work.
