Official Super Rugby 2016 Thread

Tactical mistake in forfeiting the game in argentina came back to roost. The dry conditions of Joburg would have been much better for the lions...

Very good game in the end, despite Lions not quite being up to their own standards. Hurricanes just didn't allow them to play.

Still, though. Lions can be proud of their season. Did fantastically well.

Congrats to the 'Canes, deserved winners. Been the best team overall this season and peaked at the right time. Haven't conceded a try in about a month... :wtf:

Yeh this.

Salute my Lions, so proud of my boys.

I have seen so many comments today about the Jaguares game and that the Lions should have sent there A-team, etc.
My view is that if Ackers did do that, there is no guarantee that Lions would have reached the finals. Also, no one predicted the final round roller coaster results of the NZ conference.

If you told me in Feb that Lions will be runner-up this year, I would have thought you are crazy.

Overall, I am proud of the boys. Today was just not there day.

The year of the so-called underdog overcoming all obstacles!

Well done Lions, but Hurricanes deserved the cup. Under pressure the stampkar rugby shows its ugly head unfortunately. Hopefully Elton and Faf can cope under pressure when playing for the Boks. BMT was the difference.

So, are the Boks selectors going to reconsider the number of Lions in the squad? Was the rugby as bad as I've heard? Heard it was the usual crap game plan. Kicking the ball straight into the opponnents hands. Get the ball , forward f&***s into the opposing team when he is 1 against 6? the usual SA rugby k@k tactics. And Jantjies dissapointing.

If I understand what you are trying to say or ask is that the weather was really k@k and the Canes nullified Jantjies. Faf did try to move the preasure from him by taking some kicks, but it isn't Faf's strongest aspect of the game.

There wasn't more both teams could do but to keep the ball close.

It was a big learning curve for the team and something they will take and improve on.

Perhaps, if they had seen anything better coming from the Sharks 41-0 dribbing or the Stormers 60-21 home loss.

SA rugby needs a huge change tactics wise. From the bit I've seen with Super rugby I don't see much coming from the Championship. 3rd place although Argentinia isn't the crappy team of 5 -10 years ago.

The big losers have been the Aussies...

Filo Tiatia has agreed to coach the Sunwolves, a 2-year contract is being negotiated and is likely to be signed this week. He was assistant coach so he knows the ins and outs, but imho he is no head coach. They had so many better options… Not to mention that they have not signed a single Sunwolves player to date, most players which have played the 2016 season have already moved on.

I’m glad that Amanaki took up the Rebels contract, the experience there will contribute more to the Japanese National Team. The issue is that they need to breed leadership at the Sunwolves, and a player like Leitch which is open at the moment is best suited to play in New Zealand.

Expect to see the Sunwolves sunk, again, in the 2017 season, the JRFU has thrown the opportunity. I may be wrong, but I will not back them in 2017. At least they gave Jamie Joseph the steering wheel, two weeks ago they gave him power over all rugby in Japan.
