Why did the Highlanders not take the given opportunities to take points… Man, according to last week’s polls in New Zealand the public rated them #1 to take the competition. The public is going to lash out against SANZAAR should the Brumbies trump the Highlanders today on Australian soil.

The Highlanders better extend their lead.

Not watching but from the live scoring it seems the Highlanders are controlling the death-period well. Keep pushing the Brumbies back and putting pressure on them.

The stats of kicks from hand between Smith and Cubelli was quite illuminating in terms of how they both play. Highlanders are very good at pushing opposition back with kicks, especially since they have Osborne, Smith and Naholo contesting.

Lyon: ‘Mostert will come in November’

The possibility of Franco Mostert getting out of his contract with Top 14 side Lyon looks more unlikely than ever.

Mostert, capped by the Springboks for the first time during the recent series with Ireland, had previously signed a two-year deal to move to France next season.

However speculation after his Test debut suggested that SARU were eager to try keep Mostert in South Africa with the Lions and would attempt to release the 25-year-old from his contract.

Lyon though are unwilling to entertain that proposal, re-iterating to Midi Olympique that they expect Mostert to arrive at the club later this year following the Currie Cup.

"There will be no negotations," the club said.

"We're relying on him, this isn't a financial issue. We expect him to arrive on November 1 and we will be inflexible."

This is unlucky but I believe the Lions lock depth is good.

Replacement winger Taliauli muscled his way across the line with just five minutes left and with the Brumbies trailing by six points before a swarm of players jumped on top of him.

Referee Angus Gardner was late getting into position and couldn't see whether the ball was on the ground, despite half of Taliauli's body being across the line.

Gardner also refused to reward a dominant Brumbies scrum in the last seconds of the game when they were just five metres out and hammering the Highlanders' forward pack.

Continuing with the article, Larkham is in high opinion that Lausii did score the try.

I am sorry to say, but the try was dismissed on the available evidence. There was no clear grounding in or on the try line. Yes, Laussi’s body had moved across the try line, but only his right arm, which did not carry the ball, crossed the line. The decision was well within the law.

The scrum collapsed twice, but not with dominance by the Brumbies, by the third attempt a penalty try may had been on the books.
Larkham should be proud that the Brumbies had played good rugby today and that they had achieved a quarters match at home even though they were advantaged by the latest Super Rugby outlay.

Not to mention that the Highlanders has nearly thrown the game by not taking the easy points earlier on…
 
Look the Aussie teams have been so poor that they don't deserve a team in the playoffs. If the format was a normal league setup they wouldn't have had a representative in the playoffs. Rather focus on fixing your rugby than whining.

Agree with this. By the same token though, if the Stormers are on the wrong end of the ref's whistle and we get knocked out, the same can apply. Only The Lions are there on merit. That said, the conference and log setup (and who's playing or not) doesn't excuse poor reffing so hopefully we don't see any more (he says, more in hope than expectation).

Is the Stormers not there on merit? They may have not played the Kiwi's but they did earn their 51 points on the board, to take notice that the Bulls only achieved 42 points.

Also, the TMO today had good reason to deny the try as there was no evidence that the ball was grounded on the tryline, he could only call short.

Yes you're 100% right. Not sure why I thought otherwise. Statement retracted :)
 
Sharks actually looking good when they have ball in hand.

Goal kicking though, is gonna be a problem. Need to look for the tries.
