Nevermind, I managed to sort out the previous issue, now I get the following:
<OSM> Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..

<OSM> PHONE_XXJVO.tar.md5 is valid.

The phone is just showing the download mode icon and odin seems to be doing nothing. Is this what is supposed to happen?
 
No, that is not what is supposed to happen. Do you have windows 7 64bit? Which odin3 are you using? 1.3?

From that link it gave you odin3 v1.7 which gave me problems when I flashed my gingerbread. I then got odin3 v1.3 which sorted out my problem.

Ok, I figured it out. It had to do with the order of opening odin, specifying roms, connecting the cellphone.

I used 1.7. It seems to have worked now.

Whoooohoooo. GINGERBREAD!!!!!!!
 
Just for interest sake. My battery lasted 1day 7hours and 14 minutes before I plugged it in to charge again from the 2% full. Had 3G on mostly otherwise it was on Wi-Fi. Used it less than usual over the weekend but still phone calls, installed few apps from the market, used whatsapp (which ran in background the whole time), smses and browsed the net to check FB few times.
 
The battery management from GB is awesome. This past weekend, on stock GB except for a voodoo kernel, I managed 3 days without charging :D, data and wifi on almost the whole time, including some phone calls etc. :D
 
I also had my Darky 10.1 rom on the whole week, no wifi though. Didn't browse all that much, just supersport to check the super 14 results about three times. Only charged my phone again today on a 30% charge. Did drive somewhere with GPS about a 10 minute drive and the car holder charges it in that period, so that must be taken into account as well.
 
I ran the stock international gingerbread rom for most of the day. I found it to be much smoother and faster than froyo. it was especially noticeable in how fast apps load and were ready to run after a reboot

I've now flashed juwe's custom rom. everything is working well and I've yet to find something not to like about it.

Not sure how to sync but what you can do is go to your contacts, import/export, send namecard via, select all and then click send and email it to your gmail account. I transfered it all to my tablet doing that so I assume it should work.

If you go to Settings, Account and Sync, then click on your gmail account, you should be able to set it to sync your contacts. One of the most useful features.

This does not allow you to send phone contacts to gmail though.
 
Weird, all my phone contacts are on my gmail, and I didn't do anything besides that.
