Official Thread: Samsung Galaxy S (I9000)

As far as the world is concerned, it is 23rd september. but that release will need to carriers, AFAIK. so it depends on vodash!!t and mtn. hopefully i can just get the international one and do it myself. got non-branded phone.

Anyone know anything about MTN's release date?

I found this: http://www.hellopeter.com/mtn-complaint-[451717]

Oke has a rant about MTN being useless, gets the reply:

Hello MrEspin,

Thank you for the post.

Please accept our apologies for the delays in launching this product.

The handset should be launching this week. I will monitor the release update and advise you as soon as its available.

Regards,
Paul
MTN Service Provider

Seems like that has come and gone too...

Damn the SGS is data hungry! I only have gmail and whatsapp running.. And battery is also suffering.. lol

Huh ? i got it on mtn like 2 weeks ago ?

Jeepers I hate callcentres. Even some okes at the shops have no clue as to the availability or expected arrival date of stock.

I'll have to walk into another store some time soon :)

Get yourself the Data OnOff app, nice to save on data and battery. That is if you don't need the data connection to be on all the time.

something funny happened today. I wanted to use 3g, and it said i had no connection. so went to the apn settings, and they were gone. the profile was deletedsome how. I then tried to creat a new one, but when clicked on save, nothing would happen. I eventually restarted the phone. and now i created a new profile for internet, but i cant remember thesettings again, what are the settings for vodacom 3g HSDPA? I have a SGS.!

APN is internet or vlive, the rest can be left blank. make sure you don't have market access booted from start up with an emulated code or else you might encounter such symptoms again.

How much power is your display using? With my brightness set to its lowest, timeout to 15sec its still using 63%.. I see there is people that get 20%.. How the F#$% do you do that?? Post your Display usage and tweaks that could help!!! please!

PS. Im on the stock vodacom rom.. 2.1 Update 1

I got Network Monitor, APNDroid, 3G Watchdog and they working nicely. I need an active data connection for WhatsApp, so i cant disable it completely.. I have disabled all other running and updating applications.. Facebook only updates once i use it, Gmail is set to manual update. Thats it.

I tried the 3 button fix on my SGS and it works, phone did not brick.

On another note.

try drop box out its really cool for syncing files from pc to phone. especially if theyr small.
Dropbox is better.
Dropbox replaces:

Emailing file attachments to yourself and other people
Using USB drives to move files between computers
Renaming files to keep a history of previous versions
Complicated backup software and hardware
And more!

Drop Box

You can the App for android aswell and 2 gig free space.
