Official Thread: Samsung Galaxy S (I9000)

sweet, just applied 3 button recovery fix, now its time to flash a JPU rom :D

btw i did like 5 hours reading and it took less than 5 min to fix, lol.

Slow...? Erm ok. I think it's quite nippy and has great functionality ;) The rest of the browsers are ****.

Actually Dolphin(witch I use too) is one of the slower Android browsers out there.
This is confirmed by benchmarks on several sites including:
http://senk9.wordpress.com/2010/07/25/android-browser-comparison-5-options-explored/
and
http://www.favbrowser.com/android-browsers-skyfire-vs-dolphin-hd-vs-opera-mini-vs-mozilla-fennec/

The reason opera is so fast is that they act as a proxy and resize images to fit your phone making page loads much faster and saving you data costs. Though I have never gotten to like it.

Stock 2.2 is faster than Dolphin though. So I use both. Have not tried any of the others.

Well I've just installed Dolphin browser HD on XXJPX and it flies so why not give it a shot. I don't really listen to benchmarks as you have to judge for yourself in a real world environment.

Hilton how is JPX?

I dont know which rom to flash!
JPm or JPU or JPX???

I'd like as 'stock' a feeling as possible, but i'd also like to use an ext 4 based lagfix ( ext4 based kernel??)

Dolphin HD used to be slow. Those links are outdated ;)
I happily use it as my default browser now. Since it's been improved it doesn't seem sluggish at all.

@Rich: JPX is the latest and it's an official release in the UK.

Well XXJPX is official and it contains Voodoo so go from there. Fastest ROM I've seen.

Agreed, JPX is really fast, and official, though standard JPO with SpeedMod and it's lagfix seemed a bit faster and had better scores on Quadrant (though those really need to be taken with a pinch of salt). Not sure that JPX contains Voodoo though?

The phone will lose some settings, but not everything. Suggest you backup if you don't have the time to run through everything.

I will shortly be applying SpeedMod K11B to JPX as I want superuser (root) back and the back-light notification. Report back in an hour or so.

I used Kies and Registry Patcher v.1.7.0.0 as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877864 and here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835628.

I did not use the ROM and Odin. I would suggest the former route, but that is up to you.

I have now used Odin to install SpeedMod K11B and it is working really well, and I have root and backlight notifications working. Haven't tested everything yet, but there does appear to be a connectivity issue on the external SD, so might have to go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9804784&postcount=5741

I think JPO with speedmod was more friendly and just as fast.

Good luck! And report back. All enquiring minds would like to know.

Not sure that JPX contains Voodoo though?

No it doesn't. It's almost as fast though. I think the Speedmod and Voodoo lagfixes are a little bit faster when using EXT4.
Samsung still use their own RFS file system, they just somehow managed to make it faster,

Quadrant gives score of 1318 with "faster ext 4" lagfix on JPX and other speedmod fixes except 'cif'. Less than 2.2. I don't think the quadrant score is important. This is the most responsive release to date both with jpx and speedmod. Don't do it until it is stable or if you don't know what you are doing!

I think HardCore will get a couple of beers on me tomorrow.

so you wouldn't recommend JPX quite yet?

At the moment i'm on JM3 - eclair (stock rom), and i def want a stable, fast, stock(ish) froyo.. how about JP6 or JPM?

Install jpx, but be wary of roms and kernals on top. Things will improve as the devs get a handle on it. Jpx is very good.
