I currently have that ROM on my phone... been using it since the weekend and i am pretty impressed...very stable, fast and pretty.

Wow! you have been running it for a long time. :)

I know - its the longest I've been with a ROM for the past couple of months... :D Seriously though, I haven't had time to flash a newer ROM. Been busy during the day with day-job and in the evenings and weekends with freelancing. So flashing new ROMs has taken a bit of a backseat for now...

If you flashed V8 of Doc's JPO/JPA ROM, you should've read the nice, red instructions about installing the K9a Version of Hardcore's kernel first before attempting to flash the ROM. I went through the same and luckily I still had a 7.6.2 ROM on my phone to flash via CWM. After reverting back and flashing the K9a kernel and THEN flashing the V8 JPO ROM, everything's been as expected. I must say, the ROM really is fast and stable - much more so than 7.5 / 7.6.

Hey I cant see anything about installing the new kernal first. I see there is a new version out now v9, is it possible that it is included now already?

Warning Flashing roms is AWESOME!!!! I flashed Darky's rom yesterday.....LOVING it....my phone is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo fast :) i'm so handing it to my BB friends hahahahaha!!

Check the first part of the Installation instructions from Kalpik's post - read the section about the buggy / corrupted kernel. What version of the ROM are you currently running? If you're running anything below v8, you are affected by the corrupt kernel and should follow the instructions posted by Kalpik before attempting to upgrade your ROM to a newer version...

EDIT: Here's the link to the post. Follow the 8 steps under "How to fix?" before flashing a V8/9 ROM. I didn't read it and had to go through reverting to a previous ROM (which I luckily still had on my phone's SD card) before I could fix the kernel.

Hey, I am still on 7.6.2 I think. Mega upload and Rapidshare gave me some trouble yesterday, so hopefully will get to it tonight.

Who knows. I have asked them on Twitter, and just get ignored. This probably will be the last Samsung phone I buy, their firmware roll-outs have always taken too demn long.

boys, who wants to help me flash the 3 button recovery (lost it after removing OCLF + unroot), and then flash Froyo + EXT4?? I stay in sunninghill, and cold beers of your choice will be on hand.

Cheers,

Rich.

I stay in Midrand, so I'm pretty close... ;) It really is very easy, especially if you just follow the instructions for flashing Doc's Froyo from XDA. You'll be finished in around 20 minutes with the 3BR fix + CWM + Froyo + lagfix.

Hey guys,
I'm on the stock JPM using the original Kies registry hack (before they pulled the firmware).
I have some time on my hands now and I'm going to flash a new custom firmware. I kinda like having all the apps and stuff that are installed with the official releases.
Is there a custom ROM that includes everything with a stable kernel and lagfix?

XDA just has so much there I'm a little overwhelmed.

EDIT: Also, what's the best way to backup and restore all the apps when the new ROM is installed?

From what I have heard, titanium backup is the best. Just installed it yesterday. I wanted to install a new rom, but couldn't download it yet. Will let you know later how it works, if I get the rom.

Unless you use the paid version, restoring apps is an absolute pain. You have to click "install" for every one of them...

Hey I flashed the v9 of the Doc ROM and it worked fine. I then did a factory reset and got a blank screen after the Samsung logo. I still have v7.6.2 and v9 ROMS on my SDcard, but I cant install it as it says:
Failure at line 80
copy_dir PACKAGE: data DATA:
Installation aborted.

What can I do about this? I have no lagfix as I have the ext4 partition

Can you enter download mode? Best bet would be to flash another rom using Odin 1.3. But search the whole Doc Froyo thread first and ask for help there too.
