Like I said in the other thread...A great coach is Robbie Deans who takes on a young, inexperienced team and beats the boks. Then there is a coach like PdV. He inherits a perfect team BUT replace his captain, three key players like Matfield, Habana and Botha then your will realise PdV is NOTHING.

I have been saying something similar for weeks now, and yes, I really do hope I get proven wrong.

Absolutely. The team was sent into the match with the wrong mindset and game plan. They allowed the Aussies to pressure them. It was a no-win from then on.

Again, stuffed if you do; stuffed if you don't. We've been moaning (collectively and generally here) for a more running game - spreading the ball to the wings more. After all, they've seen very little of the ball in the previous games. Now that we try to play a looser game, it backfires and PdV is a twit? I don't think so - I think we need to ensure that we maintain possession at the breakdown to afford us the opportunity to play a loose game. We lost this game (based on our game plan) at the breakdown imo...

Fully agreed. Only Sir! would differ on that point. I think the most yards won in the second half is when FS fell on his ass and even in that motion he did better than Ruaan in the whole of the game.

Well that's a matter of opinion. IMO if you go back and watch the game, every time Ruan got the ball he was flat-footed and undecided. Francois Steyn has played well at fullback so far in this Tri-Nations - I saw no reason to replace him for this match...

Its also very hard to come in the game in the last 10 minutes.

Well that's just a standard replacement at a standard time. It's been going on for decades now and I really don't see the problem with it. Last time PdV replaced at an earlier stage we nearly lost the game (against the Lions) and he was lambasted for it...

Blame whoever you like, the Aussies played far better rugby than we did today. They deserved that win and we're lucky the deficit wasn't larger. There was absolutely no cohesion within the team, and I have to state that Ruan is not a fullback's ass. He was permanently undecided and it was like carrying extra baggage within the team.

I see everyone is jumping on to the "blame the ref" angle again, but even with a decent ref, we'd have lost the way we played today. The Aussies beat us at the breakdown (hands down) which stuffed our game plan up, we then lost the scrums (although to be honest, the ref was hardly giving those a shot), we made stupid mistakes on the few occasions that we had attacking opportunities and even our lineouts were some of the worst I've seen so far.

Our only 'saving grace' from a positive perspective was our centre pairing who are always consistently good, but that's not going to win us a Tri-Nations match on its own. You can blame the ref all you like, but we lost that game without his help...

Well, as I said, I don't think the ref was biased, just useless. We may have clinched that important bonus point, I do not think we stood a chance of winning, had he been a bit more "on the ball".

Do you think we deserved a bonus point from that game? I don't...

I have limted knowledge of the game? WoW - because i support my national coach in one post on this board, you can tell i have a limited knowledge of the game?

Have a look at what in contect? PDV has won the Lions, he THRASHED the ALL Blacks back to back. Humilated the Ozzies in Perth. He loses his first game today and you tell me he isnt good enough?

Grow a brain!

Once again, its Aussies.

Also a point of contention: we got lucky on the Lions tour. We should have done better, we didn't.

What do you have against PDV? How can you be so negative when it was his first loss?

He has not yet proven he's an coach ass. As coach he was lucky and show promise of a good manager but fail with and take seriously bad decisions during the matches and while they count.

The coach sent them in with the wrong game plan. It was too elementary an error to be acceptable at this level. Yes, the team he inherited has brought him this far, but it will require far more. He has done nothing exceptional unless you consider inheritance exceptional.

Exactly! Why change from a tactic that's working and then lose? If it ain't broke don't fix it!

I always claimed he is a lucky twit but started to like his management style, as coach well a lot still needs to be proven.

 I think Ruaan is out of his League in the form of Morne' doing well and now PDV are TRYING to find a place for him by removing a much better player in the form of FSteyn.

That the whole problem, standard replacement at a standard time costing tries??

I agree with that. But let's not forget that Jake White did the exact same thing leading up to the RWC07 to develop certain aspects of our game. And don't forget that in the modern era, a tight strategy is not necessarily a winning strategy in test matches and kicking has becomes an integral part of it. I like the fact that we're experimenting more with a loose game but I think PdV could have picked a more suitable game to experiment with than this one...

Probably not, but we might have come within seven points with a bit more "luck" on our side.

The fact that we needed "luck" to secure just a bonus point puts it all into context, doesn't it? :p

An Ozzie or (Aussie) is an Australian slang term to name themselves, often used in chants on Australia day "Ozzie ozzie ozzie" "oi oi oi"

We got lucky? Are you flippen joking with me?

You people are the worst kind of supporters. You claim to support the Boks but you secretly wish they fail so you can be right at the end of the day.

You critisize a coach who is about to win the Tri Nations. PDV as stated in a previous thread is a great coach. He has won the Junior World Cup just like White did.

I guess when we thrashed the All Blacks back to back, PDV was just lucky. When we sent the OZZIES packing last week - PDV just got lucky.

When we beat the Lions - PDV just got lucky. He must be one HELL of a LUCKY guy then.

I agree about steyn being a better fullback than Pienaar.

I disagree with this last bit though - Francois Steyn didn't cost us those tries...

Yes, oooh aahh... and a bunch of pissed off Muslims weren't responsible for 9/11.

Unfortunately you don't seem to understand the game as a whole, and especially not in context. As such, I see no further point in fuelling your flame bait.

Take your hate goggles off. As i said in an earlier post, supporters like you disgust me.

No use debating with you, you are not capable of grasping the simple logic of the game.

Cantera, are you sure you even know which sport we're discussing here? It seems you would rather attack posters than make valuable contributions to this thread.

Try to use mature arguments, keep a level head and play the ball, not the player and perhaps people will take your comments seriously. Until then they're merely flame bait.

Just remember, we're debating here, people are allowed to oppose your views. If you're going to get all pissy about it maybe you should go play elsewhere because it seems to me you're not capable of mature debate.

timgaul, how can you ask me a question if i know what sport we are discussing? Do you expect an answer from me, or do you expect an insult for that ridiculous question.

i have seen this thread develop for a long time and you sit on the fence when the Boks win but as soon as the Boks lose, you go hard and blame blame blame.

I also used to be like that when i was 10 years old. Grow up dude, and give PDV the respect he deserves.

this is way way better than the rugby ... carry on chaps!

And once again with the insults. That's like 20% of your 171 posts, you're not going to endear yourself with fellow forumites if you continue in this fashion.

I merely ask you if you know what we're discussing because you seem intent on not discussing it. Now can we please continue with the discussion at hand in a mature and sensible fashion?
