What about when Rokocoko fielded the ball inside the field of play then stood out and was adjudged by Barnes to be a kick direct into touch? Another incorrect decision that could have cost us dearly!!!!

Certainly, there were plenty of incorrect decisions which are outside the scope of the point I'm trying to make with regards to Pierre Spies' kick.

Those decisions should be sent to a panel of 5 television match referees who have 10 seconds to cast a vote - majority decision wins :D

And that's nice of the referees to shout at them to not advance, but as I said it's not their job to coach the players but to enforce the laws on the field during game time.
Fair enough but the ref police's the sides endlessly, they seldom shut up, yelling instructions to players continuously!!!

What's the law on failing to adhere to the touch, pause and engage rule cause the ref warned Franks on 2 occasions about not following that particular protocol yet we lost our footing on the wet turf and he adjudges Smit to be losing the bind and awards NZ full arm penalty...

Staggeringly inconsistent.

The number of turnovers the AB's enjoyed with their hands in the rucks yet when they had the ball Owens was shouting at Green to let it go, LET IT GO GREEN, HANDS OFF GREEN, YOU OFF YOUR FEET GREEN!!!!!

DUCKER!!!!

Nice of you to come and add such value to this thread. I look forward to further inciteful (yes, a deliberate spelling error!) comments from you...

Did you miss the next sentence where I implied that it was a joke? I've highlighted it in bold below for your convenience.

Lance is a filthy collaborator *spit*.

But seriously, that was a great game...

I am a bit concerned about how many decisions have goone against us by the match officials. The Boks handled it very well and got on with the task at hand though. All credit should go to them.

True, there was a lot of inconsistency in this game (getting tired of saying it by now :D) which he will have to answer for when doing his performance review after the game.

It is, however, not the referee's task to teach the teams how to not break the laws but to enforce them. Learning not to break the laws should be taught during training by the coaches, not by the referee during the game.

I do believe my point regarding the penalty has been made so I'll step off the technical stage if it's all the same ;)

Agree and agree.

It all comes down to consistency.

From the kick-off JS supports Victor (legally) and gets pinged.

First scrum where JS slips he pings us with a penalty. Yet he gives the AB prop 2 warnings for incorrect engagement.

I will re-watch the game tonight, but I am sure there were several similar infringement to the Pierre Spies 'kick' penalty.

Yeah, the officials were a little bit one sided. We won in spite of it so let's not get to stressed about it. Hopefully Paddy O'Brian has a chat with them.

The problem is that this is not an "once-off". The last 3 games have seen some very dubious decisions against us.

Best part about winning this Tri-Nations ........ we won despite all the inconsistency in the refereeing :D

Very well played Springboks, you've made us proud :D

My point esxactly, no complaining about the ref will ever fix the result, thus rather outplay the ref too!

All in all it was a great game, The bulls vs SHARKS! game looked/felt/was pale in comparison.

The best part was that the boks beat NZ in NZ. :D

"You can't afford to have ill-discipline against a kicker like Francois [Steyn], but its pretty hard to see those [60 metre penalties] go over,"

McCaw laments 'chasing the game'

:D

Tim Human rates the Springbok players…

15 Frans Steyn:
Good under the high ball and great on defence, but that 60 metre monster penalty will be the lasting memory of his game, and indeed his entire first stint with the Springboks. A wonderful send off for the youngster; we await the return of the finished article in a few years time. 8/10
14 Odwa Ndungane:
Solid under the high ball, but soft on defence and missed a few tackles . A bit of a weak link in this formidable side. 5/10

13 Jaque Fourie:
Strangely innocuous on attack, but did his usual sterling defensive work. 6/10

12 Jean de Villiers:
He had very few opportunities, but he just had to leave us with a trademark intercept didn't he? What a way to end a brilliant Springbok career. 7/10

11 Bryan Habana:
The Boks were back to their original gameplan, so very little ball went Habana's way. His cover defence and kick-chasing was characteristically superb. 7/10

10 Morne Steyn:
His performance, particularly in the first half, was his best in a Springbok jersey. Pin-point kicking of all varieties is expected from him, but today his control was especially impressive. 8/10

9 Fourie Du Preez:
Made a few uncharacteristic errors, but his marshalling of the game was spot-on. If he plays well the Boks play well, and he was outstanding. 8/10

8 Pierre Spies:
Good work-rate and defence, but he made some silly errors and didn't control the ball well at the back of the scrum. 6/10

7 Schalk Burger:
He complimented Brussow well and flew into the rucks with vigour. His support play was good and did some disciplined work around the breakdown. 7/10

6 Heinrich Brüssow:
A few great turnovers and showed strength that belies his small frame. Smith's late injury may have unearthed an exciting new loose forward combination. 7/10

5 Victor Matfield:
Exerted massive pressure with his 'sixth sense' on opposition lineouts. The Boks struggled with some of their own ball though. 7/10

4 Bakkies Botha:
Forceful around the park and made some great hits. A lot of the credit should go to him for the improvement in the scrums. 7/10

3 John Smit (captain):
Two of the biggest moments in the game came from the skipper. The massive hit on Thorn, and the even bigger shove in the All Black scrum in front of the Boks' poles. The perfect way to silence his critics and a tremendous individual display to lead his team to Tri-Nations glory. 8.5/10

2 Bismarck du Plessis:
Accurate throwing and typically robust play in the loose. 7/10

1 Tendai Mtawarira:
Technically sound at scrum-time and a magnificent cover tackle as part of respectable defensive effort. 7/10
