Official Vista "performance" and "compatibility" packs released

SP1 will apparantly only be released 2008 according to some websites. Nobody really knows as it is all speculation and Microsoft has not confirmed a service pack yet, although we know there is a beta version being tested.

So there is one wether MS confirm it or not, people have screenies of Vista with SP1, but I suppose it could be faked? Looks pretty real...
 
sp1,well,there is something i dont get,I payed R1400 for vista upgrade,i registered it and basically i did a clean install from a clean hard drive.So whats up with the R3600 price at incredible corruption.
I mean its the same software,So oem is cheaper,I registered vista on the net and i am sure can place another copy on a laptop,All i have to do is phone microsoft,They will understand right.
 
Apparently OEM is "married" to your motherboard, or something along those lines. Not sure about the whole story, to tell you the truth :D

Well that's not what we'll have to use, the testers have a whole new ISO of Vista with SP1, we'll get a downloadable distributable surely?

It'll still be big for us to download :(

Found the reason (or possible), why your C-Media audio card is not working correctly. From http://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/~pgut001/pubs/vista_cost.html
In order to appropriately protect content, Vista will probably have to disable any special device features that it can't directly control. For example many sound cards built on C-Media chipsets (which in practice is the vast majority of them) support Steinberg's ASIO (Audio Stream I/O), a digital audio interface that completely bypasses the Windows audio mixer and other audio-related driver software to provide more flexibility and much lower latency than the Windows ones. ASIO support is standard for newer C-Media hardware like the CMI 8788. Since ASIO bypasses Windows' audio handling, it would probably have to be disabled, which is problematic because audiophiles and professional musicians require ASIO support specifically because of its much higher quality than the standard Windows channels. Same here.

I'll wait for Vista SP1 and then get the 64-bit version + new pc. Hopefully there will be more drivers out for Vista 64-bit by then!

Makes no sense to buy the 32-bit version, soon it will be forgotten.

Yeah, I have a 64-bit version of Windows Vista Ultimate (OEM) lying around the house. As soon as it makes sense to install Vista, that's the one I'll be using... :D

That's going to be quite soon, if you don't think you could use 64 bit (in general) Vista atm, then I wouldn't get my hopes up about SP1. The problem is basically a lack of 3rd party drivers, especially 64 bit.
