Official Vox DSL feedback thread

Suddenly got better. Not anywhere near line speed, but better. Will keep an eye on it...

My Telkom account is outperforming my Vox 150gig FP account on torrents by about 10x to 15x. Am in Cape Town on 40Mb VDSL.

If this persists the account will be cancelled come month end.

While I understand that torrents are VERY variable, the performance between the two accounts is also VERY noticeable.

Hi

Could I ask you to pm me your details? I would like to have a look why you are struggling.

Michael

Hi deceptive

Could you give me a trace to the site you use to stream?

Anyone else having issues in Cape Town? My connection was working fine in the afternoon but when I came back few hours later, connection was lost and wouldn't connect anymore.

ADSL Modem logs reveal the following:
1/1/2000 1:0:5> netMakeChannDial: err=-3001 rn_p=803c9fec
1/1/2000 1:0:27> Last errorlog repeat 176 Times
1/1/2000 1:0:27> MPOA Link Up
1/1/2000 1:0:57> Call Failed
1/1/2000 1:1:4> No DNS server available
1/1/2000 1:1:4> Last errorlog repeat 10 Times
1/1/2000 1:1:4> adjTimeTask fail: no server available
1/1/2000 1:1:4> adjtime task pause 60 seconds

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Something weird happening in my area, I live in Brackenfell, Cape Town. I used to get on my 2mbps line 1.76mbps and 8-10ms.

Now I am getting this:

I don't mind getting 1.94-2mbps, but now I am getting 44ms. And I play games mostly and ping/latency means everything for me. And I contacted telkom asked for a port reset, but it didn't change a thing. Wonder if anyone else also experience same thing. I tested it on, Afrihost, WebAfrica, CrystalWeb, Mweb and Telkom, all do the exact same and giving same latency, the lowest latency I get is 24ms, where i used to get 8-12ms and Internationally, Used to get 158ms - 165ms, now getting 173- 210ms.

Jusy little awkward, how this change over night!

Yeah, I don't care much of downloading, literally just care for latency xD

There is a thread about this somewhere, was posted here or in the fatpipe thread as well recently. Lots of people reporting a bit higher line speed after doing the Telkom speedtest. Might be part of a network upgrade or something. Higher speed but also higher latency. If latency is more important to you, they can switch it back (if you get hold of the right people), but it will probably change on its own again at some point.

So perhaps just wait it out? Hope it will get better soon meh. Thanks for reply!

Hi

No ongoing issues in CPT at present. I'll have another look.

Michael

FUP my arse. This is my usage for the month so far: How does that exceed FUP. You have a issue on your Network, now you trying to throw the typical MWEB response at me. Take accountability and fix it!!!

I'm going at less than half speed. Call logged. Got a call yesterday. No change.

Could you please clarify this? On MWEB, it's simply a matter of logging in to the portal and checking if you're throttled or not.

The only "MWEB response" I can think of would be that torrents are usually shaped during the day. Which I do not see VOX doing here.

Still no response to my PM, and my downloads are still dead. Sigh, here starts the hunt for another ISP again, and to think I sang their laurels.

11PM and my downloads are now a whopping 8.7kB/s. Full line speed on speed test though.

At least my NNTP downloads are doing what I tell them, I hope these aren't early signs of bad times ahead.

Downloading windows updates is extremely slow, getting around 7-15kB/s on 4Mbps Fatpipe account and it's been like this the whole evening. If I switch to my Afrihost or Axxess accounts the same downloads fly at 400kB/s plus.
