random disconnects. Vox please fix this ****

This could be a line fault.
I just had Telkom out today to fix my cable, "repeated disconnects".
Took forever to get them out, reported fault on 6th, random disconnects, on 15th the line finally died completely.
This afternoon 18th they came and replace the cable from the pole to the house, it was damaged.

Good luck!

Hi

Internet is broken for the last few days

Last Result:
Download Speed: 343 kbps (42.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 24 kbps (3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 714 ms
4/18/2016, 10:52:07 PM

Router keeps saying this

Internet Status:
Disconnected
Please configure your DNS manually

However manual DNS doesn't help the situation at all

This is Centurion - Eldoraigne

I play online with a friend from Eldoraigne and he's not having any issues? Nor am I (but I'm from PTA East) and we're both on Vox connections. Maybe check your line.

Soon I'll be moving to a new place that doesn't have Telkom lines yet so will be on LTE :( I fear my gaming will suffer.

I've also been having random "disconnects" the past few days. The line and WAN is still connected but there is no throughput of any data. Can only fix by disconnecting and re-connecting, only happens on my Vox fatpipe account, Afrihost is fine.

This, added to the high latency i get occasionally is making me want to switch ISP's :/

The only issue I currently have is one I can't figure out, Vox has to do something on there side to fix it and since cvanwie left I'm not sure this is going to happen soon.

I can stream Netflix from the UK or US on my Windows 10 PC and it will go 2MB/s, as soon as I switch to my iPad or Samsung Smart TV I get around 300KB/s, I did a speedtest on my iPad and network speed test and that is definitely not the issue, something like YouTube is still 2MB/s.

As soon as I switch to another ISP and play the same thing on either the iPad or TV it works great and I get four times the speed Vox gives me.

I'm having a similar issue with YouTube on my Xbox. No matter what I tried, the Xbox will default to SD resolution. On my Smart TV and Galaxy Tab 4, YouTube plays fine at 720p.

I have been in touch with someone from the Vox technical department and he seemed like a smart guy so hopefully he can figure out the issue, I explained to him it's only on the TV and iPad yet Windows is fine, I have sent him five speed tests, two UK, two US and one SA, and he will call me probably again tomorrow.

My only guess is when Netflix recognises the device it needs to stream to it optimises the data for that particular device and Vox just isn't handling the stream accordingly.

Tested BBC on my iPad through the site and it streamed fast and I could see it go 1+MB/s when skipping through so it definitely looks to be isolated to Netflix.

So I've always heard about VOX's terrible telephonic support/service. Fortunately I've never had to call them until last night.

I call in at 20:18, I get through to a guy by the name of Thabiso. I explain to him that I am calling because of disconnection issues & my speed has been ridiculously slow lately but even more so tonight. He asks for my account number & just before I am about to give it to him he asks if he can call me back "in a minute" I oblige and even give him my cell phone number just incase he cant get hold of me on the landline. Needless to say, he never called back.

I sent them an email at something to 10 from the mobile app informing them of what had happened. I get a call this morning at 08:00 asking how can they help me. TWELVE HOURS LATER! They're worst than Telkom! I totally lost it and gave him more than a piece of my mind.

Ok, so while typing this I get another call from them from a lady apologizing profusely for the bad service I've received. She promises the matter will be raised with Thabiso and the appropriate action will be taken if necessary. She also promised that a senior technician will call me tonight and go through some checks and try to sort out my issues. In the meantime she will get in touch will Telkom to ensure everything is OK on their side.

I will not be holding my breath for that call tonight.

Reading this thread is not giving me a warm and fuzzy feeling at all..

I have most of these issues.

1. random disconnects (line is synced and it shows I'm connected to vox but no internet)
2. slow speeds are getting more and more prevalent
3. When I do have great speed my international speed is dire...Speedtest shows 8.9 but Netflix keeps stalling...

I am on my 3rd router now (for testing purposes) and it all stays the same...Asked Telkom to reset the port and yadi yadi ya...and it all stays the same..

I do have a Afrihost account I haven't touched in months maybe I'll give that a try as well.

Are you using Unotelly for Netflix? If so, the problems may be with them. Apparently they have to act as a VPN now for the region bypassing to work, and they don't have enough capacity for this yet. Many people have been complaining about poor streaming through Unotelly. Try another service or test with BBC etc. Just saying this might not be Vox's fault.

I don't know if Vox actually did do something but after they called me yesterday and I specifically mentioned Netflix on a iPad my speeds have increased and become more consistent, albeit not yet the speed it needs to be it has more than doubled.

Netflix speed on my TV has not increased but is also much more consistent so I did just email them again with the new information so I will see how that goes.

Edit: They just called me 10 seconds ago, they did work on it, that's why it has improved and it has been escalated, someone will call me again tonight about the speeds on the TV.

Thanks..Ya I heard that as well but BBC is fine. Just the US based content that has an issue.

I switched to my Afrihost account and streamed with no issue whatsoever.

I'm giving it a week for testing but if it stays the same I will cancel VOX or maybe give my account to a family member..Have one of those R160 one's for 150GB..

Edit: Ironically I moved from afrihost to VOX because of the network screw up they had. :)

That issue is specific to Netflix and Unotelly as far as I know. Other services should still work on Unotelly. But if it works on your AH account it is probably something else. Maybe give them a call, Soul Assassin in the post above you also had some streaming problems and it seems Vox is working on it.

The struggle continues ;)

I moved away from Uno and my streaming is perfect on Netflix. Get 1080p 95% of the time.

Logged a ticket regarding slow connection max 2mb on 10mb line. Ticket just closed today. Now getting speeds of 1mb. Are you still interested in your clients or should we find another ISP?

Ticket closed without resolving issue: VOX7272494
