Official Vox DSL feedback thread

Thanks for your help. Can you maybe do some testing on non-RD links in Kodi and report back? For me - any RD link I try (new and old stuff), I get max 1mbps. To be honest, I haven't really tried the non-RD links. Just trying to see where the issue is.

Have just been told by vox that downloading and streaming get a lower priority (due to shady streaming sources). I would assume this does not apply to YT, Netflix, etc?

Would Terrarium work, maybe we can try and play the same thing from the same source and see?

Edit: Or Kodi but I think playing the same thing from the same source is important.

Then I think it is time for me to tell VoX whare to shove it.

They are not a liberty to make moral judgment calls and decide if my streaming sources are legitimate (for the record most of them are), if they suspect illegal activity they must report it to the authorities not take punitive action of their own.

I bought an unshaped package, they have changed the contract, and yet by shaping my streams they are treating me as the scoundrel.........

What they are really saying is:

"The Uptake of netflix caught us by surprise and we don't have the bandwidth to meet the number of contracts we have sold, so rather than buy more bandwidth to meet our obligations we are shaping the S1ht out of it and claiming the moral high ground to boot."

I am sure that YT and Netflix type sources will be excluded from that statement. I think they sniff out the dodgy stuff. Besides Kodi and Terrarium, I haven't had too many issues.

I find that nothing is shaped during the day, but spot on 4PM my line drops from being a 10MBs link to 1MBs.
It still doesn't mean that they are providing what they sold me and that I am paying for.
if they can't meet current demand why are they having specials to sign up even more users?
that is just greed and not sound, moral, business practice.

You have this via speedtest or? I am, right now, getting 9MB/s on my torrent.

We are referring to streaming being shaped because of what VOX referred to as "shady streaming sources" and you know as well as I do that Speedtest is prioritised by all ISP's.

I don't use torrents to download but I do use ACE to stream occasionally.

Tonight I was fine on youtube and Netflix but any other stream I tried buffered like crazy.

Download a movie from a pirate site and it works fine, but to Stream legally from other than Netflix, forget it. They are actively encouraging piracy with the new shaping policy.

Never ever had shaping or throttling on any protocol. Bet that it is congestion on your exchange.

what about using a vpn to hide your actions.

Thanks Guys but you are both out of context.

I am referring to this:

And was testing that statement.

I have nothing to hide, I am just annoyed that VOX are finally admitting that they are shaping the unshaped account they sold us.
It is shades of Afrihost all over again.
years of blaming telkom/openserve, lots of denying that they are shaping, eventual having to admit that they couldn't handle streaming then the final implosion.

I have yet to see shaping in any way, shape or form and I've been with them for many many years, since 2014 I think.

Used VOX's capped account in Gauteng
Horrible latency issues and when doing trace it showed all traffic is first being routed to CPT

Put through my cancellation and they send a letter showing no fees outstanding
But interesting part they are one of the few that still wants more than calendar month notice
so you will have to pay the next month again.

Thanks VOX I will stay away from all your services going ahead

(In Cape Town, between home and office)
Sometime in the last few days I also noticed a change in routing. Between my home and office I used to have 6 hops for about 5ms total. Now it's going all over the place for 30ms. Not terrible, just feels unnecessary and a change like this might indicate some issue that has to be routed around.

Would be nice to get the old route back.

I had the weirdest issue, it makes no sense to me, if I did a speed test on my phone or my iPad I would only get around 25Mbps on a 40Mbps line, but if I downloaded something from the store or watched YouTube it would go full speed, run a speed test again and only get 25Mbps and stuff like Twitch was unusable.

I then try the same thing on my PC and get full speed on a test so I figure it has to be the Wi-Fi, change all the settings around on the router but the Wi-Fi is fine, I stream from my Plex server and get 350Mbps so it's not the Wi-Fi, I decide to leave it overnight and see if anything changed this morning, same results, slow speed test, Twitch won't work etc.

So I live chat Vox, they reset my port and all of a sudden all is good again, I should've probably done some trace routes to see if I see something but it's very weird the different results on different devices.

Edit: Forgot to mention when changing ISP everything went back to normal, change back to Vox and the wireless devices were stuck at 25Mbps again.

Anyone else experiencing slow speeds and an increase in latency?

Anyone else experiencing slow speeds and an increase in latency?

I gave up on them at 7:00 PM last night when all my video feeds died simultaneously.
Switched to Telkom and watched the F1 Qualifying with out hiccup so have stayed on Telkom since.

They can't seam to handle the Video Streaming demanding in the evenings, especially in Cape Town.

Great trick offering Rollover data but insufficient network capacity to never actually use it unless you prefer to pirate movies and download.

My local stuff like YouTube is fine but I was playing a game on an international server and I had packet loss and Twitch also won't work.

Edit: I just checked speedtest and it was also slow and double the latency.

My speedtests are showing 44 ms ping and 5.44 mbps download. Usually it is 26 ping with about 9.5 mbps download.
