Official Vox DSL feedback thread

More disasters....

OVH EU is completely inaccessible. The loss is just too bad via SACS to NY then to EU.

Then what is supposed to be over SACS to NA is going via EU first. Very bad not sure how anyone can even recommend Vox as an ISP. They don't attend to these routing issues at all when raised so the NOC is just chilling there and he/she doesn't even know what is going on. Very sad for such a big company....

My Vox account has been behaving well of late in terms of latency so will stick with it for now, but if it goes downhill again I'm sending in my cancellation and switching to Afrihost.

It's a little more expensive, but the latency is almost always better and you get 2 extra hours per day of zero-rated data usage.

I must give them credit for the extra data we were given during the lockdown though, it has been very helpful.

Afrihost to OVH France... Vox is pretty decent in terms of unshaped access, the extra data they give and latency to Brazil. For me it feels as if Afrihost has a bit more balance when it comes to EU. Some really good latency to EU.

Could someone try a download and report their speed please?

On Vox I get a mere 14KiB/s if I'm lucky. On Afrihost it goes closer to line speed. Before I try to ask Vox support, I'd like to make sure if anyone else has this issue. I see it often with github downloads.

Yeah they have MASSIVE routing issues to Amazon S3 servers.

I posted a trace route. I forwarded the issue to their NOC who replied with "please contact support" Horrible company. Makes me think about home affairs the way they deal with issues....

Thanks, I suppose it's good that it's not just me, but I just moved my fiber from ISPAfrika to Vox and told all my family to use Vox... Well, they work fine for almost everything I suppose.

I get this bad feeling that the guy who worked there (and was active on this forum) years ago was the only one who really knew anything and now things are just slowly degrading until it becomes so terrible that they have to fly in some international expert to fix it.

Vox latency to work servers I cared about was the lowest, but that doesn't help me at all if I only get modem speeds out of it.

(Just realised that they snagged me by insisting on giving me a router, which I repeatedly tried to reject. If I cancel too soon I might need to pay for it, will have to look at that)

Well from CPT they are pretty good. Anyone in Gauteng and immediate surrounds well that is where latency to EU starts being meh because the traffic is going via EASSy and not WACS like for the guys in CPT.

They have an okay network which works but their attitude towards issues stink. I mean it's clear as daylight that the issues I posted above is a Vox issue and a routing issue but their 1st line support says I need to restart the router and ONT and their Senior Architecture & Engineering at Vox said I need to contact support....

The problem is still there and obviously network wide which he could have just tested himself considering his position but didn't and just shrugged me off like some some annoyance.... It is what it is. If you want his email I can give it to you if you want to submit trace routes and cc him in the support emails.

I'm in CPT as well yes and only when WACS goes down do I bother looking for other ISPs for temporary data. Afrihost seems to be the only one that puts any effort into both alternate routing and keeping customers informed when there is such a severe cable break.

I'll try my luck with the normal support channel tomorrow first and see what happens. The fact that I don't have this problem for every file I download means I quickly forget about it.

I miss that dude, he moved back to the states. I guarantee you if he still worked for Vox our everything would be perfect.

Hi E*****,

We have made a change to the routing , could you please test your services to the OVH prefixes (51.91.0.0/16) .

Woot woot. Thanks for bugging them, for me it looks much better now. Weirdly though, Afrihost now sucks. It honestly looks just like the opposite of yesterday.

Anyone know if VOX has a naked dsl product? Or how can I apply for one with Openserve? My landlord is canceling the internet line on my the property I rent and he is being a bit of a douche about it - I actually pay for the line and data and he does not want to let me take it over. Urgh. Not going to put up a fight and just need a naked 20 // 40m vdsl line again

Only Telkom is offering at the moment.
You have to wait, as none of the other ISP's including VOX have offers at the moment.

Even Webafrica which was the first to show their pricing for Naked DSL and said they were to go live with the product on the 15th of May 2020, which never happened as they had access to Openserves Pure Connect porduct on the same day so they have delayed it for now.

My AWS downloads are down to sludge again tonight, actually makes some sites unusable now. Win some lost some, no ISP is good.

Hey there FHTheron !

A buddy of mine (sup C!) reached out to me and told me about this post ! It has been years and I cannot tell you how this warmed my heart this afternoon (in the USA).

You are in great hands with Vox and everyone who works there. (BTW Vox, I miss you guys!!)

It wasn't me, I could not for the life of me remember your forum name, I checked my PMs and I don't think they go back that far.

Nonetheless I hope everything is going great for you in the US, Vox lost one of their best people that day. I still love everything about Vox except the routing and them not even trying to fix it.

I noticed I made a mistake there and ninja edited my post! :) I really appreciate the kind words!

I can't speak for where things are at, but knowing the team and management, I'm sure it will get fixed up.
